Italy, 1000 lire celebrating the centennial of Rome as a capital of unified Italy

Cool! The reverse pattern is Michelangelo’s design for the Piazza Campidoglio where he placed the Marcus Aurelius equestrian that stood in the piazza’s center until recently.

This is a crown that I've owned for quite a while, purchased back in the late 1980s at my local coin shop.  Since I don't record the date of purchase, auctions excepted, I need to rely on my memory, which is increasingly foggy, so my recollections for purchase dates are becoming far less defined.

Switzerland, Lucerne, thaler, 1622.

Dav 4624; KM 24; Haas L 84

28.5 grams

I photographed this coin with the reverse first, to the left, since it is the principal side of interest.

Reverse: Saint Leodegar standing, with nimbus, wearing mitre, robe and cross, holding hand drill in right hand and crosier in left hand.

Obverse: Nimbate double-headed imperial eagle with coat of arms of Lucerne on chest. Crown above.

The drill held by Saint Leodegar, patron saint of Lucerne, is significant since, according to accounts, he was blinded with a drill and tortured to death in the 7th century AD for his opposition to Ebroin, the Frankish Mayor of the Palace of Neustria, and the leader of the faction of Burgundian nobles.

Here's a far more graphic, and much rarer thaler, also from Lucerne, 1603, depicting the blinding (not my coin).

A recent small and opportunistic purchase. It was very cheap and I have been to Neuchâtel not long ago, so I couldn't resist:

That is really cool! I have a couple of the above coins but I did not realize that they are each pieces to a larger single image. Neat!

Here's this for my first post: My favorite Canadian large cent. I'm building a collection of these because they're relatively inexpensive and I find the design appealing. The toning on the obverse isn't very noticeable in the image, but in hand it's quite a pleasant metallic blue color. If you're a member of CoinTalk, you may have have seen this one already.

1 Sho Tibet 1928

I posted a few coins from Tibet earlier. Here the design is a little more simple, less cartoony, but no less beautiful.

Stopped at a gas station in south-eastern Pennsylvania the other day while traveling and bought $1.99 worth of items. Here's the penny I got in change:

I've gotten Canadian cents before but never one from Bermuda! In nice shape too. I thought it was pretty neat.
