CPK Posted February 15, 2023 · Supporter Author Share Posted February 15, 2023 Been awhile since I posted in this thread! I recently got this Napoleonic medal. It is absolutely beautiful, very high relief, and masterfully done. I wish my ancient coins were this nice! 😮 Napoleonic medal.mp4

Hughie Dwyer Posted February 15, 2023 · Member Share Posted February 15, 2023 I wouldn't really say that I 'collect' these, but I'll still post them. Sometimes I'll have a look at them but, since Decimal-Day in 1971, they haven't really been much use! 😁🙃 9
Hughie Dwyer Posted February 15, 2023 · Member Share Posted February 15, 2023 (edited) I was thinking of maybe posting a thread about them sometimes but wondered if anyone would be interested. Anyways, enjoy! Edited February 15, 2023 by Hughie Dwyer

Benefactor robinjojo Posted March 15, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted March 15, 2023 Here's a recent pickup from Numismatik Naumann, Auction 125, lot 723. For some time I've been looking for a companion thaler of Julius to go with the 1589 thaler that I've owned since 1992. This is a nice coin, cleaned, but with a nice strike and decent surfaces. Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, Julius, thaler, '"Lichttaler'", 1586, Goslar. Davenport 9064 28.68 grams This is the other wildman thaler, 1589, the "Brillentaler", Davenport 9067: 8

ChrisB Posted March 16, 2023 · Patron Share Posted March 16, 2023 I just purchased this as an upgrade to the one I have. This one is on it's way to me. It is in a details PCGS holder for a "scrape". I can't find it in the pictures. For the price I paid I'm not going to complain. Maybe it will be more obvious in hand.

JAZ Numismatics Posted March 16, 2023 · Member Share Posted March 16, 2023 (edited) This is a lovely and educational thread. My contribution today will be a 50 centavos bronze of Bolivia. The emblem of Bolivia is quite striking and the toning on this coin is unreal. These were struck for Bolivia by the Philadelphia mint in 1943, but dated 1942. A one-year only issue... BOLIVIA. Thing is a whopping 76mm in diameter and weighs more than 50 grams. I believe this was the template for a 2015 one ounce silver round released by the US mint. AH, so you're the one that bought that medal! The obverse was engraved by Gilroy Roberts, designer of the Kennedy Half Dollar. He was a master of portraiture on coins and medals. Here is a very rare medal, also with obverse by Gilroy Roberts... Bronze medal of William Howard Brett, director of the US Mint from July 1954 to January 1961. The obverse is by Gilroy Roberts, designer of the Kennedy Half Dollar, who throughout his career was a master of portraiture. This is #317 in Medals of the United States Mint (Failor and Haydn), and the catalog describes the reverse as such: "The kneeling female figure represents the Mint. Allegorical figures surround the central figure, depicting mining, assaying, melting and refining, and coining. The seal of the Treasury Department appears below." The reverse was designed by Engelhardus von Hebel. 3 inches in diameter, 217 grams.
