Thank you for an interesting post, @Limes ! I looked over my denarii and I found only one with a noticeable gash. It would never cross my mind to attempt a repair 😱!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted in the Greek forum — I’ve been maintaining a rather strict Roman Imperial presence. My apologies for not visiting more often. Anyway, I thought I’d post my latest Seleucid creature poster. My latest is the panther in the center. Do you have any additions to your menageries? I’d love to see them!

Coin psychology: How did your preferences change?
LONGINUS replied to Salomons Cat's topic in Roman Empire
Great topic for discussion, @Salomons Cat! I know I’ve told the story many times on the coin forums about how my first ancients were a boxed collection of coins from the Holy Land that I ordered from an ad in the back of a Biblical Archeology magazine. I wasn’t shopping for coins. I was going through a difficult time in my life and I was shopping for Holy relics. Anyway — life got a whole lot better for me and 18 years later I’m still seeking a Biblical connection. Here are my primary collecting areas.- 9 replies

I think it’s a nice coin! I’m with @hotwheelsearl and opine for horn silver.

Congratulations on your interesting acquisition and post, @hotwheelsearl — but I’m suddenly having a craving for molasses cookies. 😁 -

I chose 8/24 which is the traditional anniversary of the Pompeii disaster to post my latest acquisition. A coin with a reverse featuring Mount Argaeus has been on my “I gotta’ get one of those list” ever since I saw a post by @David Atherton, back in 2017. His featured a Helios type figure standing on the summit of the volcano and a Flavian emperor on the obverse, however. Please post your volcanos and your favorite Gordian III coins.

August 24 is the Traditional Anniversary of the Destruction of Pompeii
LONGINUS replied to LONGINUS's topic in Roman Empire
Thank you for the interesting news clip, @Numisnewbie — we can honor the event again in October 👍 ! I wouldn’t be surprised if many of the traditional dates we attribute to ancient events are inaccurate. -

A Roman Nail, Celtic Coin, and a Salute to General Agricola
LONGINUS replied to LONGINUS's topic in Roman Empire
That’s a great collection and a beautiful coin montage, @DCCR! Thanks for posting. -
August 23 is the anniversary of the death of Gnaeus Julius Agricola in 93 AD. I’ve chosen today to post my first Celtic coin from Britain and a poster featuring the general and one of his forts. I’d love to see your Celtic coins from Britain and your Roman coins of the period.

It could be held up in the mail, @Topcat7. I had a coin show up seven months after I ordered it. It was a total surprise because I’d almost forgotten about it. The reason I didn’t ask for a refund is because I thought I could have been at fault and misplaced it when it came in. International mail carriers can be very frustrating to work with.
