  1. Excellent post! AI is great fun and since you have to describe in minute detail the type of image you want, it's a wonderful exercise in the power of using descriptive words to create an illustration. I haven't tried the Photoshop version yet.
  2. Great post, @Amarmur and superb Tribute Pennies ! These are always a must have item along with a pair of Judaean lepta (Widow’s Mites) to keep handy to show to a Bible study class. Confession: I cheat a little when showing a shekel of Tyre, (since I don’t have one) by using an Antiochos VII tetradrachm.
  3. I always enjoy posting these during Easter week… …as it gives me the opportunity to share and refresh the presentation of my favorite group of Judaean coins. Over the years, my Biblical coin collection has expanded and improved in quality. I’m always on the hunt for superior pieces, and this past year, I’ve managed to enhance several coins within this series. At the heart of the grouping, cataloged by David Hendin’s numbering system, lies this particular sub-collection. Most of these coins were struck at the Jerusalem mint, except for those of Herod Antipas. Notably, coins with Hendin numbers 6234, 6235, 6236, and 6243 were produced at the Tiberius mint in Galilee. This year I chose to go with a simpler layout and a bit more detail in the coin descriptions rather than simply referencing the Hendin numbers. Please feel free to post any of your favorite sub-collection coins. Have a very good Good Friday !
  4. Great post, @CPK, and your excellent denarius features some beautiful imagery. Julia Domna, being the first Roman Empress in my collection, will always be a favorite of mine. I’m constantly on the lookout for portraits of her with expressive eyes and beautiful facial features, such as on your coin. This graphic is from a while back; I’ve purchased a fifth Julia Domna denarius that I need to photograph and add to my digital images.
  5. Great coin and great new avatar, @David Atherton!
  6. Beautiful coins and great post, @Tejas — and remarkable portrait of Maximian, @Al Kowsky his nose is very unique compared to other Roman Emperors.
  7. Welcome to the FORVM, @Morgan I recently purchased an Aurelian. I liked the portrait and that much of the silvering is still visible. I was not happy about the less than perfect reverse but I’m okay with it now. I’ve convinced myself that the flaw could have historical significance and that it may have deflected a sling projectile and saved someone’s life. 😉
  8. I found these cases on a Walmart website... ...under the hobbies category and thought I’d try it out (virtually first and not actually as of yet.) I created this scale illustration selecting 50 of my Imperial Roman silver denarii, antoniniani, drachmae, and siliqua. I’m considering purchasing three of these, one for my “Top Fifty Roman Ruler Denarii Collection”, and two for my “Top One Hundred Judaean Coin Collection”; not for permanent storage but for temporary ease of transport and display. I’m planning on visiting my great nieces and nephews next month up North. The five outside of the case and grayed out below are those that I will carry separately in archival flips. These are available from sources other than Walmart. Here are the reverses for variety but it is unlikely that I would display them like this. This photo shows how the cover holding the glass partially covers the capsules when it is closed. I’m okay with this so long the coins are not obscured. How do you package your coins when you want to visit and show them to family and friends.
  9. Congratulations on putting together a nice set of coins, @ambr0zie. I also started out to collect one each of the emperors in the denarius / antoninianus denominations. I preferred them in VF/XF condition and needless to say cost became a major obstacle. Consequently, I altered my goal and concentrated on collecting a 50 rulers of Imperial Rome denarius / silver antoninianus collection in VF/XF condition. I’m happy to say that I achieved that goal last year thanks to the inspiration I’ve received from the collectors on this site. Here is my Decius family with a bit of Waltonsesque dark humor.
  10. February 11th of thereabout marks the anniversary of this tragic event. Here’s a favorite of mine and a recent upgrade in my Judaean collection. Please post your coins from the period.
  11. Great coin and detective work @Roman Collector! I’ve no new Faustina II coins but your post inspired me to look up Homonoia who is a Greek deity symbolizing order and unity. On your coin, she’s holding a patera and cornucopia so I’ve posted denarii featuring Concordia who promotes closely related virtues and is holding similar symbolic objects. Anyway, many thanks — I had no knowledge of Homonoia before today.
  12. Congratulations on your great coin, @Michael Stolt — featuring a tragic figure in Roman history.
