    I decided that it was a good time to post my latest coin featuring the good emperor. The four–tiered pyre on the reverse side of the coin which was large and strong enough to support a four-horse chariot and ceremony participants, must have been an impressive structure to witness. I cannot resist comparing it to a birthday cake. Please feel free to post your Antoninus Pius coins or any coin featuring an image that reminds you of something that it is not.

    On September 18, 96 AD (or there about ), Emperor Domitian fell to the blades of his attackers. Several days prior, Minerva had appeared to the emperor in a dream, and announced that she had been disarmed by Jupiter and could no longer give Domitian her protection.     Interesting post, @Salomons Cat! I cannot believe that I fall within any “normal ” range on how often I connect with ancient Rome in my thoughts. I devote my attention to my coin collection (primarily Roman ) every day if I can. I also enjoy creating the artwork to accompany my Roman coins. At night when I’m falling asleep, I don’t count sheep — I count denarii. 😉

    I found a PAX in my collection (sort of ) it’s Livia as PAX. Does that count or not quite? 🤨

    That’s an interesting coin, @thenickelguy! I knew immediately that I did not have one like it but I was certain that I at least had a PAX reverse that I could post. Anyway, I discovered to my surprise that I don’t have an image of PAX on any coin in my collection. The coins that I thought featured PAX turned out to be Ceres, Concordia, Felicitas, Fortuna, Juno, Pietas, Puditia, Salus or Victory. So now, thanks to your post, I’m on a PAX quest. 🕊️

    I enjoyed an excellent post by @KyNumis the other day, featuring Boeotian obols. I considered posting my obols there at that time but since none of mine are from Boeotia, I decided to post a separate thread. I’m pretty excited about my most recent acquisition which features a tuna fish. Please feel free to post your gorgons & goddesses, eagles, boars, lions, heroes, and tuna fish.

    According to IMPERIUM ROMANUM, a supernatural event occurred on or about this day (September 14, 9 BC) give or take. After I read the history it occurred to me that my Trajan Decius antoniniani might be an appropriate choice of Roman Imperial coins to accompany the article. The first coin features a reverse image similar to the man on horseback in my ghost illustration. The second coin has an image of Genius who was believed to be a benevolent spirit. Please feel free to post your coins and comments.

    Great post @Ryro — I’ve always had a fascination with this battle. I visited the area back during the last century when I was an art student. Of course back in the 80s, the location was rather uncertain. Imagine the fear and despair of the Roman citizens when they received the news.

    Interesting coin @hotwheelsearl — I’ve never seen one before. It crossed my mind that Luna Lucifera might be a Roman version of Isis? Or not — just a thought. I posted this coin not too long ago but the artwork is new.

    These are my two oldest coins and although they were not in existence for several plus more years when the Battle of Marathon took place, they do come fairly close to the period of 490 BC. Feel free to post your coins from or near the period or any coins featuring someone running.

    I’ve always found the Helena and the True Cross legend to be an interesting one and I’ve been on the lookout for this type of coin, on and off, over the years. Until now however other coin types have taken precedence. Anyway, I’m really happy to add this one to my collection. Please post your Helena coins or any coin additions that you may have procrastinated over.

    The second and third coins in this poster are my most recent acquisitions. The Ambibulus collection is a sub-collection from a sub-collection. The coins are shown again below to illustrate where they fall in the overall chronology. Do you have any completed sub-collections from sub-collections?

    Another great Faustina Friday installment, @Roman Collector ! I’ve a Vesta reverse but not on a Faustina coin. I didn’t purchase this coin because I wanted a Vitellius — it was the image of Vesta that caught my eye.

    It’s been a while since I’ve posted in the Greek forum — I’ve been maintaining a rather strict Roman Imperial presence. My apologies for not visiting more often. Anyway, I thought I’d post my latest Seleucid creature poster. My latest is the panther in the center. Do you have any additions to your menageries? I’d love to see them!
