I noted it right away while checking out the VIA Auction site. To my surprise the best two coins remained "unsold" First was a MS Valentinian I Solidus Treveri Mint/ starting bid 2K/ and the Tsar of Rus Dukat. I was still busy with work so only had "Coin time" after 10:00PM. Needless to say/ I snapped both up.😄 Obscure auctions have some great steals....

Sadly in the World we live in/ public displays would be asking for it. But/ if you are ever in my neck of the woods. I love to have you over for a "private showing" and some excellent German cuisine. Its funny/ I noted that Saxe-Alte-Weimar Goldgulden, on a German dealers list on MA-shops/ took me 2 seconds to click on the "buy" button.🤩

panzerman Posted January 7, 2023 · Member Author Share Posted January 7, 2023 8 hours ago, Egry said: Number 9 is so cool. I’ve never seen one like it before. thanks. That was the first Dukat I had ever seen in auction. CNG once had a 3/4 Dukat from series in their auction. Friedberg list 10 diff. denominations from 10/ 8 Dukaten down to 1/4 Dukat/ all are super rare. But then any 10 or 8 Dukaten coins in high quality are 6 figures. Seems the original strikes are unique or MIA. However from 1725 -1845/ the aristocrats in Czarist Russia had some rare pieces struck from original dies at St. Petersburg Mint. The "Novodels" struck in tiny numbers would be then collected by Grand Dukes/ nobility. Most novodels are known from less then five examples today.
