  1. I don't think I've posted this coin in this thread before... Next: Facing bust, please
  2. I've been looking to post this coin ever since it came a few weeks ago. It's not the first time this coin has been on the forum, though. Many of you will recognise it as @YOTHR's Lucius Verus Coin of the Day. I had been looking for a coin such as this for a while and this was the perfect one. Many thanks to @YOTHR and @Prieure de Sion for being such a great store. I recommend them to all! 😀
  3. @ambr0zie That is a stunning group of coins. I especially like the Trajan Denarii - my favourite being the Trajan's column reverse. Here are my Trajan Denarii:
  4. As many of you know, I am new to the hobby (I bought my first coin in June last year) and I have little experience. @Valentinian This is an extremely informative and helpful site, which I will probably read quite a lot as I build up my collection. Thank you.
  5. I posted a thread about this one. Here is the first coin of King Charles that I have seen...
  6. Nice coin. Here's mine - it is heavily cleaned by the previous owner but, overall, not too bad of a coin. The photo is not great either!
  7. I've posted these before but here is my pre-decimal coinage. They range from Queen Victoria to Queen Elizabeth II. The vast majority fall into this period but some date into the 1800s under Queen Victoria and others were minted right up to 1967 (the final year of their production).
  8. Here is a very worn Gallienus but a Gallienus nonetheless!
  9. 6 hours - Here is one of my bronzes that I have attributed - with some help. 😀👍 Next - Same theme as before
  10. Here's a coin I bought quite a while ago. I thought it would be cool at the time to buy this reproduction - I never thought I'd ever get the real thing! Compared to my actual coin:
  11. Thank you everyone who helped me out. I am very pleased with the outcome. I thought that I should update you all on ow it has turned out. Please see the images below - enjoy! Thanks again, Hugh
  12. He was the Gladiator Emperor - the emperor everyone knew, but very few liked. Whose marksmanship was unrivalled and left-handed nature was much to his liking. However, in the latter years of his reign, Commodus seemed to have fallen into the depths of insanity. He decided that he was the 'Reincarnation of Hercules' and scarred the name of the Imperial Purple for years to come. Coins were issued with Commodus in the attire of Hercules and statues ordered to please the emperor's deluded ways. " Disgracing the Imperial Purple, he fought wild beasts within the walls of the Colosseum and even changed the name of Rome to 'Colonia Commodiana.' " (From RIC Vol II) Commodus performed his most notable act during the Plebeian Games of 192. Cassius Dio tells us this: " On the first day he killed 100 bears all by himself - shooting down at them from the railings of the balustrade... On other days he would descend from his place above and cut down all the domestic animals that approached him... He also killed a tiger, an elephant and a hippopotamus. Having performed these exploits, he would retire but later he would fight as a Gladiator... He held his shield in his right hand and his wooden sword in his left; and indeed took great pride in the fact that he was left-handed. " (Cassius Dio) Yet, this utter disregard for the Roman Population as well as his extreme arrogance, led to many plots against his life. None were successful until the night of December 31st 192, when Commodus was strangled to death and Pertinax was hurriedly installed as emperor. Anyway, this is a post that I have been saving for some time. I have said before that a Commodus coin in the style of Hercules was number one on my wish-list. And last week, this arrived: I am extremely happy with this purchase (even though it was slightly out of my budget😲) and it looks stunning in hand. Thank you for viewing. Let's see your coins of the 'Unworthy Emperor' or anything else that fits!
  13. Welcome @AusCollecting! For my latest purchases, We have a father and son relationship. I won these two at the latest LAC auction. Caracalla - Caracalla lived a troubled and fierce life; he was probably forever haunted by what he had done to his brother Geta (See a similar post featuring this coin on another thread). Many believe that it might have been because of this guilt that Caracalla chose to have such a cruel relationship. There was only one place where Caracalla was truly loved - the army. Together with his father, they increased the Soldier's pay by masses - almost ruining the currency in the process. Here is a coin of his with Serapis on the reverse. Then we have Septimius Severus: Thank you for reading.
  14. The fast forward a decade and you have this: The next coin is one of my latest purchases. I always wanted a Caracalla with his scowl:
  15. I've got a few pairs: You average brotherly love 🙃...
  16. Here's one with Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aurelius:
  17. 6 hours... Why not try this one again!
