Good evening all, Sorry to dig up this thread but it is the perfect place to post my challenges when attributing a coin of this type. I had always wanted a coin like this as I think it is quite an iconic reverse design and one I wanted an example of. My story begins a few months ago as I was looking through inexpensive LRBs to see if anything caught my eye. And sure enough, I stumbled upon this coin and decided to buy it. On arrival, I immediately photographed it and began trying to attribute it. I got quite far but was never able to confidently add the finishing touches. This is why I am asking the help of NVMIS FORVMS. I'll show you how far I got: -------- First of all, I was quite confused by the many uses of the words 'plumed' and 'crested'. I would love to find out exactly what these words describe and how they differ. Also, how would I go about establishing the coin's RIC value? This is because all of the examples I have seen and their respective RIC values only seem to differ when you consider the mint date of the coin (which may be wrong above...) Finally, I'm pretty sure that there are two stars (but the left one is worn and scratched). Is this correct? -------- Thank you for reading. I would highly appreciate any help. This one commemorates the late Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee on the 6th of February 1977. It marked 25 years on the throne. This medal is minted especially for the London Borough of Sutton, where I lived at the time. My aunt saw this and kindly thought of me. I have kept it safe ever since. Come Friday Morning at 6am GMT, I will be embarking on a trip that has the potential to be truly phenomenal - Rome. However, my hopes will only become a reality if I plan to the best of my ability. As the old saying goes: “If you fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” We all know the sheer abundance of history and the plethora of must-see landmarks that Rome has to offer. Sadly, though, I only have 3 days in the capital before my city break draws to a close. This means I have to plan my trip wisely in order to get the best results. This is where I might require assistance so any help from those who have been to Rome would be much appreciated… Here’s what I’m thinking: Must-see: Vatican City (Sistine Chapel, Vatican Museums etc) Colosseum Pantheon Trajan’s Column Castel Sant’Angelo (formerly known as The Mausoleum of Hadrian) Mausoleum of Augustus → Google currently says it is temporarily closed. A check on the website says that it’s been closed since June 6th but there is no sign of when it will reopen. Any thoughts? Temple of Hadrian Roman Forum Would really like to see: Domus Aurea (Nero’s ‘Golden Palace’) Baths of Caracalla Circus Maximus Palatine Hill Trevi Fountain Other: Antoninus Pius and Faustina Temple Arches (Arch of: Titus, Septimius Severus, Constantine I) → Worth visiting with such a short time? Other Forums (Forum of: Julius Caesar, Augustus, Nerva (Transitorium), Trajan) Other Columns ( Antoninus Pius Column/Alter(?), Marcus Aurelius Column) Piazzas: Piazza Novona → Extremely close to Pantheon. Possible place to eat. Piazza Colonna → Marcus Aurelius Column. Near Pantheon. In terms of the forums, I have a few questions: What’s the difference between each one and, therefore, why are they so clustered in one space? How big are they? I've put the Roman Forum in ‘Must-see’ but is it really the best? Overall, I know I can’t fit it all in, but these are the places I would like to see most. I was just wondering if there are any other places to visit and what you thought of the initial plan of the trip. Do you think that I am over-estimating; which attractions do you think will take the longest? As always, thank you for reading. Any help/advice would be much appreciated: is there anything that you would(n’t) recommend? Or, post anything you feel is relevant!

I have been away on holiday in Dubrovnik for the past few weeks and it was a great trip. I might make a post about my travels! Anyway, during the time that I was inactive here, my new coin came - a Marcus Aurelius denarius. Here it is: I very much like these reverse types that commemorate military success. Next: another coin that commemorates a win in battle. P.S: Happy to be back here after a few weeks away! 😃

Great post @kirispupis! I can certainly say that I have fallen victim to a few of those! I never knew that there was that much of a difference. At what point would you use each one?

Very nice series of coins. I'm still working on mine. However, my collection of the '5 Good Emperors' is just denarii - not specific types like yours! So far, only a Marcus Aurelius eludes me

Yet, what do you do if these books, videos, websites (etc) repeatedly contradict themselves about a particular thing? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for any help, Hugh
