  1. The time has finally come! My last coin of 2022 has arrived and I am now ready to show off my top ten. With the help of this forum, I have been able to create a fairly successful first year collecting and I can't wait for what the future stores for my new passion and me! In order of purchase, here we go: 1 and 2: (My first denarii) My first two Roman denarii and of a pair that fascinate me! 3: Another coin of Geta - this time in his short spell as Augustus. 4: 5: Definitely one of my best and most loved coins which feels beautiful in hand. 6: An October purchase. This coin I bought from a local coin shop; at the time, I wasn't sure if I should have but after interesting research, I do not regret this coin one bit! 7: This is the only bronze in the list; it is of, arguably, one of the best emperors of Rome. Only being cheap, I decided to purchase it. Now, the last three are my favourite coins - what do you think? 8: 9: A stunning coin and undoubtedly my favourite. Although this coin isn't the best in terms of appearance, I love to admire it and its wealth of history it holds! 10: Now this coin comes with a little bit of context. This is not the first time that this coin has featured on the forum. It was the subject of one of my earlier posts. I asked the forum whether or not this coin was worth buying (thank you all that replied with such helpful info). In the end, I settled on leaving this coin for someone else. This was just as well because, by the time I had looked at the listing again, it had been sold. However, fast forward a few weeks and I receive it in a very generous and thoughtful Christmas gift from my family. I guess that they had seen that I was eyeing up this coin and bought it in secret for me. I suppose that this clears up that mystery and adds another nice denarius to my small but mighty collection. And there you have it. 2022 was the start of a hobby that will hopefully continue for many years to come. Thank you all of NVMIS FORVMS for being so welcoming and helpful. I wish you all a very happy New Year and a successful 2023! 🙃😀
  2. Great taste indeed. A variety of coins - my favourite being the ancients! Congrats to a great year
  3. Nothing but the very best! Congrats. Stunning coins. I wish I had those in my collection. Hopefully, I can get my top ten out there before 2023 kicks in!
  4. Lovely coins, everyone! Interesting too! 🙃
  5. An extremely interesting and successful top ten. My favourites are the Traianus Semis and Hadrianus Semis! Congrats! 😀
  6. The rivalry of Geta and Caracalla has always been a great interest of mine. So, the Caracallas are my favourites - especially the Damnatio Memoriae.
  7. I see what you mean. I can barely create a list of my top 5 favourites. As has been said, each coin is not only beautiful but interesting in its own right. If I had to choose, I would go numbers 9, 8, 4, 3 and 1. Thank you for sharing this with us. Congrats on a great year.
  8. Exactly right. They all look stunning. A great year for you @DonnaML. Congratulations!
  9. Thank you everyone! I also wish you all a very merry Xmas and happy holiday season.

  11. A very nice coin. Congratulations.
  12. The Emperors of Rome podcast seems extremely interesting to me. I hope to slowly listen to all 215 episodes! Thank you for posting this and pointing me towards this podcast @Nerosmyfavorite68
  13. Hello all, While doing research on the Roman Empire, I noticed that much of it was based around the high-ranking officials of the time. My limited knowledge and research led me to wonder about a possible class system in place. Was there such a thing? I wasn't sure about who the Senate and Consuls were and was wondering if someone could fill me in on this. Also, how do Army Commanders and Centurions relate to these powerful people and (like in the case of Septimius Severus) how were some commanders able to become emperor? As well as this, who was the Praetorian Guard and who were they in relation to the Army? From research, I have found out that much of an Emperor's power and stability comes from support of these people - especially the army. Therefore, I would be interested to know how the Roman Army was split up. I think that there were legions that were split up into legionaries. These were further spit up into centuries (commanded by a Centurion) of around 80 men. These 80 men were then split up into tents of around 8 men (is this all correct?) Beyond this, I know that the Roman army had a cavalry unit but also an Auxiliary Unit. The Auxiliary unit was made up of non-citizens of the Roman Empire (until the reign of Caracalla) who were added to the Army with their specialist skills (such as Syrian archers). After a 25 year spell in the army, soldiers of the legions would be given land and money whereas Auxiliary soldiers were granted citizenship. Finally, how did the army change over the course of time? Please correct me if I am wrong (which is very likely). Any help is much appreciated. Thank you Hugh
  14. Or this one. This is a Trajan denarius commemorating the capture of the province Arabia Petra. The deserts of Arabia are very hot.
  15. How about these two: Each reverse contains a scene with a lit alter
  16. @happy_collector A great year! My favourite half were your Romans - especially your gold acquisitions.
  17. Stunning coins from a fascinating time. That's quite some collection you have. I can't wait to see more... 😀
  18. Stunning purchases @Kaleun96. This was a great year for you! I like all of them as they are all so interesting. Congrats.
  19. Lovely purchases. All of them are very interesting to me. Congratulations.
  20. Very nice additions. I voted for 5 coins but could have voted for more. The coins that I felt deserved my votes were numbers 1,2,3,5 and 8.
  21. Lovely coins. My favourite is the Nerva as he is an emperor I am currently trying to add to my collection.
  22. Not a massive addition to your collection - but an absolutely stunning one. It's all about 'quality not quantity' (in my opinion anyway). Lovely coins. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone!
  23. These coins look beautiful - although I know nothing about them. Congrats on a successful year.
  24. Nice coins! The Sphynx is number 1 for me as well!
