  1. Living in Australia, and the North at that, it's impossible to comprehend the temperatures and weather you are experiencing in America and Canada. All I can say is stay safe and hopefully warm. Not sure these coins will help, but I have a lit altar, lit torch and the sun god Helios.
  2. Awesome selection. I'd be happy to own any of those. I'm glad you had the vote for all option......I did. If I had to pick one, it would be the Baydad tetradrachm and Delphi trihemiobol (I know that is two). Congratulations on a great year.
  3. Very nice selection of coins. My favourite is the Athens owl from 440 BC, I really like the colour and character of that coin, coupled with nice style and centering, makes it very appealing to me.
  4. I'll join in too. Sounds like a fun challenge.
  5. Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. Always pleasing to know others appreciate and enjoy seeing what I've added to my collection.
  6. You must get a lot of joy every time you look at them. Without knowing much about them, I really like the second coin in the top tray and last coin in the bottom tray. A lovely collection.
  7. Going by the voting, seems I've followed the crowd, but my favourites are numbers 3, 1, 6 & 2 in that order.......order liable to change! Well done on excellent videos as well as excellent coins also.
  8. Great coins, well done. I really like your Athens tetradrachm and Paphos stater. I like your Alexander tetradrachms too. Numbers 1 & 2 would be my favourites of those.
  9. Those coins and the history behind them is fascinating. Thanks for posting.
  10. Number 1 definately my favourite. But I like numbers 5 & 7 also. Well done on a great year of collecting.
  11. I don't collect Roman, but know great coins when I see them. My favourites are the two Agrippina Jr coins, Galba & Nero. But they are all excellent and interesting too.
  12. Not my collecting area, but enjoyed seeing your coins. I voted for number four, very interesting reverse. And an honourable mention for the sphinx.
  13. This isn't really a top coins list, as I only purchased three coins this year, and I wasn't going to do it at all, but decided I'd show them. As someone who is consumed by ancient Greek coins, I really enjoy others end of year lists and seeing great coins from other eras and civilisations, so thanks to everyone who posts their coins. Anyway, I'm assembling a small collection of the best quality coins I can afford that cover as much of the Greek world as possible. This obviously limits the number of coins I can afford. The first coin I purchased is a coin I have admired since I first saw it in the Prospero collection. Then it came up for sale in an NAC auction last year, but I had to pass as I'd already spent my budget earlier in that auction. I was a bit disappointed I'd missed it. Then, much to my surprise, it came up for sale in a Nomos fixed price list sale. I had to get it, it's not very often you get a second chance like that. And I thought their price was fair also. The coin is a tetradrachm from the Cycladic island of Tenos. Minted c. 200 - 180 BC. The obverse has a figure of Apollo with a rams horn. The reverse has Poseidon seated, holding a dolphin in one hand and a trident in the other, with a bunch of grapes in the left field. What is very obvious is the die makers have copied the very well known Alexander tetradrachm Zeus reverse and Lysamichos Alexander obverse, but put their own twist on the design. Anyway, you can see what I mean with the coin. Next I bought a stater from Larissa in Thessaly, minted c. 350 BC. I've been on the lookout for one of these for a few years, but always get outbid. This one has a few problems, some die rust around Larissa's eyes, and the reverse die had a few issues also. But I love the style and I'm really pleased I bid on it, as I think the price was fair. My last coin purchase was in the recent Nomos sale. When I first saw this, I thought this is just what I'm looking for, but thought the estimate was a bit steep for a hemidrachm. Just before the auction, decided to do some research, and found that they do in fact command high prices and the estimate is reasonable. I knew my targets in the NAC sale the day after this would get blown out of the water (they did), so decided to go for it. And I'm pleased I did. Kyrene, Kyrenaica hemidrachm c. 500 - 480 BC. I really wanted a coin from Kyrene, and I love their archaic coinage. This coin is only small, (but thick), and the head of Zeus is fantastic I think, it really appeals to me. And the heart shaped seed of the silphium plant on the obverse is also very attractive. Anyway, well done if you read all that. Didn't intend to ramble so much. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone on Numis Forums.
  14. Wow, great coins. Excellent videos too. My favourite is the Herakleia stater, love that coin. Congratulations on a great year. Forgot to add the Kyzikos hecte with the chimaera is also awesome. Would love either of those two in my collection!
  15. Another vote for the Thasos stater from me. But I also really like the Knidos tetradrachm. Not a coin you see very often. Third would be the Pharsalos drachm, fantastic style. Well done on a great year of collecting.
  16. I like them all, but I'll give a shout out to your Athens tetradrachm. I like archaic coins, and your Athena is nice style. The Gela didrachm is also a great quality archaic piece.
  17. Like them all, but I especially like the coins in the second photo, even though I know nothing about them. Very interesting and attractive coins you collect. Like others have said, would like to see the other ten coins you've purchased.
  18. Awesome coins. My favourite British monarch is Charles I, so his shilling is my favourite coin. I'm very interested in that period of English history, both historically and numismatically. Another great show of coins.
  19. I've mentioned before I love England and it's history, so those medals in particular are very interesting and beautiful. If I could have just one, I'd pick the Charles II coronation medal for sure, I love that. Well done on a great collection.
  20. I picked 5, 6 & 7. If I had to narrow it down, would pick #7, the Ptolemy VI bronze. Which might be different to most people's choices, but I really like that portrait.
  21. I like the coin from York, because it's one of my favourite cities in the world. Also love the double headed eagle. And the coins from the Henry's.........I like the whole lot!
  22. I would never make any money if I was a coin dealer, I just wouldn't want to let them go. They are all great, and though not a coin I know much about, I really like number two on your list. A very appealing portrait. Number four also very attractive. Anyway, hope you made a profit!
  23. I was going to mention silphion, but you already have that. Not sure of any others. Not very knowledgeable on Roman coinage, but maybe something there? I actually purchased a coin from Kyrene recently, a type I've wanted for some time. Mine only has a silphion seed on it though. Won't show it though as I haven't received it yet!

    Top 10 2022

I was going to write something similar as AncientJoe above. As I concentrate on collecting ancient Greek coins, I enjoy seeing different types and collections. And I love England and it's history, so particularly enjoyed seeing those. Congratulations on adding great coins and I enjoyed reading about them.
  25. I'll be honest......I'm jealous! The coins are great, but the presentation is wonderful. I can't even begin to imagine how you do it or how much time it takes. Congratulations on an awesome display.
