  1. You're making me want to purchase some English coins! I've commented on your coronation medals in their own threads you've posted, but my favourite is the Charles I medal, not so much for the design, (though love the portrait of Charles I), but I'm just fascinated by his reign and all the turmoil that surrounded that period of English history. My mum was English, so always loved England and it's coins, and I'm quite familiar with the types, so your first two coins reminded me of looking through catalogues as a kid at old English coins. To that end the George II Crown is absolutely my favourite, and don't think it will be beaten as my favourite coin of yours this year. Having 'Lima' below the bust adds to the history. Fantastic large coin. Congratulations on each of your purchases, they are all wonderful.
  2. Love these coins. Can't pick a favourite, though I do like the portrait coins. I always wanted a collection of early English pennies, find them really interesting and historical, but spent all my money on ancient Greek coins, so have to be satisfied looking at photos instead. Thanks for posting!
  3. Lovely and very interesting coins. Most of which I knew little about........until now! The Rhodes drachm is a coin I'm familiar with and for that reason is a favourite. Great style and centering. However, if I could only own one of your coins, I think I'd pick the Nero tetradrachm. The galley design is awesome and even has a couple if dolphins in the water. Really interesting coin. Look forward to seeing your other coins when you have time.
  4. I missed this when you posted it. These coins are fantastic and right up my collecting alley. If I could pick only one to add to my collection, it would be the Akragas tetradrachm. It wins by a beak from the Gela didrachm and Messana tetradrachm. Congratulations on a great year of collecting.
  5. All great coins, but I particularly like your wildcard selection, the Civil War Hoard. It's one of my favourite periods in English history, and I just love the hammered coins of Charles I.
  6. Excellent coins, congratulations. Voted for 5, 4 & 12. I collect Greek, so really appreciate your coin from Akragas, very fine style. Though I know nothing about it, the coin with the rhino is awesome! And I really liked your coin of Constantine the Great. And in hindsight should have given a vote to your Julius Caesar portrait coin, who wouldn't want to own one of those!
  7. Excellent coins, but ultimately 9, 3 & 1 got my votes. I really love the Alexander coins minted in Memphis, that ancient Egyptian symbol on the reverse is fantastic! I don't have any coins from Crete, so jealous of that one. And knew nothing of your first coin, but having the rulers name inscribed in the lions mane is fascinating.
  8. 1, 3 & 9 for me. But number 3 my favourite for sure. Didn't know such a coin existed! Just read the thread you started when you purchased it. Somehow missed it at the time. Very interesting.
  9. If I could have one superpower, it would be to have your creative design talent.....even for just one day! Would love to be able to display my coins like you. Another great interview and beautiful collection of coins.
  10. I didn't even notice the lion on the silver issue, had to go back and have another look. I really like the lion sneaking out from behind the dais actually (even if it doesn't make much sense). The overall design is really interesting. And the bronze really makes the details stand out. I love it.
  11. Great write up and fantastic coin as always. My favourite Apollo portrait in my collection is also a facing head, though a smaller coin being a drachm. Macedon, Amphipolis c. 369/368 BC Ex Gorny & Mosch 240 (10 October 2016), lot 85; Star Collection (LHS 102, 19 April 2008), lot 123; Hess-Leu 28 (5 May 1965), lot 139; Burton Y. Berry Collection, 13. Aidhonokhorion Hoard, circa 1936 (IGCH 364).
  12. I look at all the owls you post, but this is without doubt my favourite. I love the coins from the decadrachm series, (the first ancient coin I saw in a magazine as a child was an Athenian decadrachm in the Bunker Hunt collection, it got me hooked on ancient coins), and your new coin is a great example. Well done.
  13. Olynthos, Chalkidian League tetradrachm, c. 390 BC. X – A – Λ – ΚΙΔ – EΩN
  14. Well I don't even know how you do it, so they all look amazing to me. But I'm going to vote for number 3. Really like the look of that one. Nice coin too. Quick edit, on having another look, like number 4 too, I think the coin stands out more on that background. Kept my vote at 3 though.
  15. Tetradrachm of Phillip III of Macedon, struck c. 320 BC. I actually wanted a lifetime Phillip II tetradrachm, but decided to purchase this because of the rarer left facing Zeus. It's been suggested the left facing Zeus was used as a way of distinguishing his coins from Phillip II, but it was very short lived, with only two obverse dies known. If it is true, then it was a very early attempt of the tradition adopted on British (and all Commonwealth countries) of reversing the direction of each new monarchs head. Adds a little more intrigue to the coin.
  16. The reverse portrait of Queen Adelaide is stunning. Very beautiful. I hadn't given much thought to coronation medals before, but that is a great area of collecting. Particularly like the early one's of Charles I & II. Well done on a great addition and collection.
  17. The Cycladic Islands, Tenos. Tetradrachm, 200 - 188 BC. Apollo Karneios on the obverse and Poseidon on the reverse.
  18. Sicily, Syracuse. Tetradrachm c. 500 - 490 BC.
  19. Rhodes my only option here. Early tetradrachm struck 408 - 404 BC. Unfortunately the ethnic off the flan on the reverse, but I do like the little sphinx and very high relief on the obverse.
  20. Pegasos on a stater from Lampsakos in Mysia, 380 -350 BC.
  21. Elis, Olympia. Stater from the 112th Ancient Olympics, 332 BC.
  22. Great write up once again and many attractive coins. My favourite coin of Zeus in my collection is this hemidrachm from Kyrene. Technically it's Zeus-Ammon, a mix of the great Greek and Egyptian gods. Struck c. 500 - 490 BC. * Apologies for showing this coin again- if you think you've seen it before - you have!
  23. I don't collect Roman coins, but if I did, a lifetime portrait coin of Julius Caesar would be top of my want list too. Have even thought about it despite being a Greek nut! Congratulations on a great coin and the beautiful presentation.
  24. N for Nike on the reverse of this stater from Terina in Bruttium, c. 380 BC. (Photo courtesy of AncientJoe - ex his collection).
  25. Kings of Macedon, Alexander I. Oktodrachm c.490 - 480 BC.
