I think my favorite is your no. 8. Fantastic reverse, and generally those draw my attention so to say. I got this coin this year. I must admit, not because it's a Faustina, but because of the temple on the reverse. 😥

Fantastic additions! Your list made me burn my risotto, I could not stop looking... i really like your no. 9, it's just so crips, fresh, the details are fantastic. Also, the portrait of Mark Antony on your no 5 is very impressive. Guess these are my favorites.

Of course I had to vote for the Leeuwendaalder 🙂 Great list. Second coin I voted for was the Philippus denarius, with the arched aquaduct reverse. I got the same type this year too!

Very nice coins youve acquired this year. It's nice to see coins that I don't collect, but they are nevertheless interesting. I voted for your first coin, because of the impressive obverse. But also doubted to go for the Mazaios stater, because of the action packed reverse. Have a great 2024!

Too bad the coins sold for far below what you were hoping for. I've sold a dozen something coins of somewhat lesser quality, via various venues. Overall, it's a loss, not because of the prices realized, but because of the fees, shipping, taxes and so on. I think it's not that easy to compensate for those costs, unless you happen to have a couple of eid-mar denarii in your stock for over three decades... C'est la vie. The other way around is also at play though, where retailers add dozens percentages to the coins added to their stock via auctions, private sellings, and so on. Sometimes even more than 100%. It only takes one buyer who did not do his research. The other way around is that sometimes buyers get lucky and score coins cheaply. Personally, I'll never use Leu as a selling venue. It does not match my coins. I mean, I have mediocre coins, sometimes slightly better than that. But they will be completely lost between the dozes of similar coins, or even the exact same types. Also, from a EU to a non-EU country (i.e.; Swiss is not part of the Union, but part of the continent) seems like a hassle dealing with a different currency, taxes, banking costs and so on. So I always use sellers based in the EU. It also helps to know the venue, having bought coins there and having a feeling with their behaviour, the coins they generally offer, the prices realized. So that the coins I sell via that venue stand out, get good descriptions, and I can make a good estimation of my loss, so to minimize it. This is a good point. I've already made a document for my wife and kids, with a venue and instructions. I've deliberately chosen a venue that is good, helpful, but also not on the other side of the planet but within normal travelling distance. No hassle with shipping, taxes, currencies, and so on. It's not about maximizing a profit for them, I mean, my coins are the worst investment ever, but to make it easy for them if they chose to sell the collection.

Its a nice coin with a great portrait, I must say the rim issue doesnt look that horrible in the photo. I can see why you did not see the gravity of it. And in hand issues can be not that bad in comparison to a photo, or the other way around and even be worse. Too bad... Also on the reverse, there appears to be a small corrosion spot. Below the C, at the edge. Is it active? You might put that forward to the auctioneer too. But hey, on the positive side, you got the coin already! Mine are still stuck in German postal purgatory....

Fantastic additions! That Ptolemy III is really, really impressive, the obverse is fantastic! About that issue of Tigranes II the Great; the reverse shows the same theme as the tetradrachm struck under Augustus, some 80 or 60 years later (see e.g.: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=6179322). Interesting, do you know if Augustus intentionally copied the design?

Nice addition. Your question makes me wonder. If the silver issue has the o mark below the neck, why does the bronze issue lacks this mintmark? Note; im not an expert in any way....!

I voted for the third coin, the Kamnaskires-Orodes tetradrachm. The portrait is kind of freaky, and the pinecone earrings suit it perfectly 😄

Great coin, the portraits are both very clear. Thanks for showing it. And very informative write up too. Denarii of Caligula and Claudius are both very rare. You cited the three theories that are generally used to explain the rarity of the denarii of both emperors. But I think all three theories insufficiently explain the situation. Both Caligula and Claudius had good reasons to show the populace their heritage to legitimate their rule, and strike coins displaying this. So, I believe other unknown circumstances were playing at the time, and likely they will remain forever unknown to us. Anyway, here's my budget non-dynastic Caligula denarius. I think it's the cheapest denarius of Caligula a collector could acquire 😁

Had to read this a couple of times... to fully grasp the amount of coins you've added to your collection in one year That's almost 6 coins a week. The mailman must be a good acquaintance by now, lol! Even though your collecting preferences are completely different than mine, and I don't know much about your top 10, it is interesting to look at them and read about them. I was drawn to your Lykkeios Tetradrachm and ended up voting for this one. The reverse is quite neat, a bit crude, but nevertheless appealing. Overall a great coin.

I know you collect coins with the find provenances, and it remains very interesting to read where every individual coin came from. Lovely collecting theme (if I can call it that 😄) My favorites are the second coin with the lovely display of the dog on the reverse, your Sabina denarius, and of course the gold stater with the wolf on the reverse. I really like the design of that one! Have a great 2024.
