No hockey likeness, but since somebody else posted one, here's a basketball reference.  Sorry for stretching the thread.

Note: not my coin, but I liked the image.  I think I pulled it off of CT a few years ago to show my son, so it may actually belong to someone here.

Not a huge hockey fan but grew up near Pittsburgh (before they wore black and gold, and had Lemieux) and cheer for the Pens.  For no apparent reason, I'm leaning towards the Avs in the cup

You'll find my primary loyalty up thread... 🙂 [edit: and later in this comment...]

Great game so far, eh?  This series may be shaping up to be a hockey lover's dream...

This is actually a big reason why I want COL to win.  Spread the wealth, I say!  My childhood hockey experiences were dominated by the Islanders and then the Gretzky Oilers and while it was great to watch those teams it got a bit annoying that nobody else could get a Cup.  Sure loved it when the Flames took out the Oilers in 85-86... then the Cup in 89!  🥳

Re: the Preds, I'm sure you heard this quip from our coach:

I bet you're still sore from that spankin' the Avs gave you, eh? 😜 Gotta love the catfish tradition though!

Back to coins, that T. Didius is a beaut, @Alegandron, and the other two are perfect for the thread as well!

(Speaking of T. DIdii, surely you have one to show us, @Phil Davis? Pretty please?)  Hmmm... #3 Blackhawks... Keith Magnuson?!  Not exactly the first guy I think of.  How about #9!!  (Immortalized as Big Bobby Clobber on the Royal Canadian Air Farce!)

OK, 3rd period time!  Maybe we'll even get overtime if we're lucky! 😄

Thank you.

I was a hockey fan when young and went to several games of the Indianapolis Chiefs (a minor league team that went out of business when I was in high school ending my interest in the sport).  When I was a fan there were few barriers to protect fans and I always sat next to the ice where I could retrieve errant pucks.  We kids played hockey on frozen streets wearing slick shoes (no one owned skates) and used those free pucks to advantage.  Once I got a broken stick which became my prized possession

This is so cool, @dougsmit!!  I loved going to NHL games with my Dad, managed to snag a couple of pucks too.  One of my earliest games was to see the Montreal Canadiens when they had Guy Lafleur and Steve Shutt.  I have a lot of blurry photos of the backs of jerseys as they whizzed by. 😆

The horror!! 😳 (I can't blame my mother.  I sold my Star Wars figures before the new movies came out just to get money because of a girl.  I wonder what kind of coin I could trade my vinyl-cape Jawa for now... 😭)

Is there an ancient coin that shows snow or ice?  Perhaps there is one showing a toothless man??? IDK

LOL!  Anybody have a lookalike?

The basketball's all good guys, even if it is worth watching only the last few minutes. 😄 Looks like the Warriors did it, @Steve, cheers! 🍻 You guys might be interested to know I once taught Vince Carter.  He did OK in the course as I recall.  (It was not a basketball course.)

Good to have some company, I think I'm in the minority here with the Avs.  You a westerner?  Re: the Pens, I'm thinking you maybe got to see Jean Pronovost play?  Most importantly, my very best wishes, I hope the "new stuff" is doing the trick for you.  Looks like I may have to switch to something new too. 😕

Too funny @Topcat7!!  I remember when Fox added the dreaded blue lines to help Americans see the puck.  Canadians were up in arms!!  I'm glad that trend didn't last long...

Just takes a couple games and you can see it even when you can't, not really.  But you know where it is!  😄

Brllliant, RC, brilliant!  I will see these letters in a new and more magnificent light from now on! 👍👍

Sadly, I sold my example of that type long ago. 😞  Super dumb move, it was a lovely one.

Can't wait 'til tomorrow, hopefully y'all* can join me again...

I'll have to check to see if I have anything puck-like or hockey stick-like, but meanwhile, how about a game of water polo?

I must say it annoys me that they don't play the Canadian anthem at the beginning.  I mean, half the players on the ice in this series are Canadian!! 😠 (I just counted. 🙃  Two of the best, Makar and Point, are from my childhood hometown!)

Don't miss game 3 starting shortly!! 🏒

You'll be glad to know, @Steve and @TheTrachyEnjoyer, that I am definitely cheering for the Bolts tonight.  I want this to be a series!!  Here's a coin to mark that:

image.jpeg.f7e9f5e2291b004618a75b5fe0c283f8.jpeg

Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.49 g), Rome, 145-161. ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P Laureate head of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. COS IIII Thunderbolt on draped throne. BMC 536. Cohen 345. RIC 137.

From the Red Ox Collection and the collection of the Czech musician Adolf Picek (circa 1885-1978), and formerly in the possession of an Italian banker, whose life was saved by Mr. Picek in the Battles of the Piave River on the Italian Front in 1917-1918 and who presented his savior with 'four socks of old coins' in reward.

Super cool sock provenance, eh?  Hopefully the Lightning will pick up their socks tonight!!

[[Edit: Definitely looking better in the early going tonight!!]]

But we Canucks are good at putting a positive spin on it, yes?  We are bringing hockey to the world!  And still, by population, we are DOMINATORS.  (Remember the Dominator? Any Sabres fans out there?  Vasilevskiy's good but not quite at that level...)

Way to go TB!!!

Wanna hear my theory?  Doesn't matter, you're gonna hear it.

Denver altitude: 1 mile.  Tampa Bay altitude: 48 ft.

Bolts players can't play at high altitude.  COL can play at low, but they don't have nearly the advantage.  So they both tend to win at home.

Or... maybe just whoever I want to win, wins?  🙃  (Will give sportsbook advice, only charge 10% of winnings.)

Avs take it in 7... or maybe 6 if they squeak one through in Florida.

Anyway, cheers to the Bolts!  Here's another thunderbolt in celebration!  (that's one on the left, on the reverse) :

image.jpeg.48fcc4c80779fd5218afa25a15586083.jpeg

Western satraps: Nahapana (c. 105-125), AR drachm. Nahapana is identified with Mambanus, king of Barygaza (Broach) in western India, mentioned in the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea, a Greek text dating to 40-70 CE (cf. Cribb, The 'Heraus' coins).

And your wish is granted!!! You know what Don Cherry always said...don't blow out a team because they will come back angrier and more motivated than ever. The Avs winning 7-0 has been some great news for the Bolts. Lightning in 7
