Paul I Five Kopeks Overstrike on Catherine II the Great Ten Kopeks, 1797
image.png.d8d33f8a3aeb95c6d76fc2d4f71d2148.png
Russia. Copper, 45mm, 42.13g. Catherine II monogram; 1793. Double-headed eagle; EM. Net-like edge (Bit P101). Struck in 1797 using Catherine II 1791-1796 dies over Catherine II’s abortive reduced coinage, in this case a 1796 ten kopeks. Despite the EM mintmark (Ekaterinburg), these were actually struck at St Petersburg, the Red mint and a temporary mint in Nizhny Novgorod.

Hey, I thought you only collected ancient coins found in the UK. That would be something if a Parthian coin were dug up there!

It would be! I think there are occasional Persian finds from later on, but I don't have any.

Britain is my main focus, but I do collect other stuff - I have a little Persian, Mongol, Nabatean, Judean, medieval Russian and a few coins from most major civilisations. But I don't collect Greek (apart from such things as an owl and an Olbia dolphin) and have hardly any Roman that wasn't made or found in Britain.

I don't have Arsaces I, but after 12 hours I can cheat and post a coin that mentions him.
