My Denarii are Going to a New Home and I’m Flipping Out!
LONGINUS replied to LONGINUS's topic in Roman Empire
I think your labels and flips look great, @CPK. The text is very clean, sharp, and easy to read and I really like the type font you’ve selected. -
My Denarii are Going to a New Home and I’m Flipping Out!
LONGINUS replied to LONGINUS's topic in Roman Empire
I’m sorry I didn’t show a photo of how I use the Speedball brayer, @Etcherdude My favorite color printing paper can only be printed on one side so I use a peel and stick—double sided adhesive to adhere the front and back labels. I use the rubber roller for good adhesion. -
Sorry — I couldn’t resist a little clickbait 🤡 ! My top 40 denarii collection are going into brand new, archival, 2 by 2 inch coin flips and the first real coin storage box that I’ve purchased for my collection. I’ve only flipped and labeled 40 or so coins but I now have a better appreciation for the work such a project entails! I salute all veteran flippers who have prepared large collections in this manner 🪖 🎖️ !

Nice coins, David — both of them have a lot of character! I’ve purchased duplicate coins intentionally and unintentionally. The second bull, in the poster below, was unintentional. The third bull was an intentional upgrade but the second bull has turned out to be my favorite of the three after all.

Beautiful equestrian Flavians, David A coin featuring a rider on horseback always captures my imagination. This is my one and only Roman equestrian coin. For years, I believed the urban legend about horse statues.

Erin, I think you would have to ask the dealer. Mr. Hendin’s signature is likely to be in other copies sold on VCoins. When I opened the book and saw his signature on the flyleaf, I was delightfully surprised. I neither requested it nor was I charged for it.

Constantius II and the Triumph of A.D. 357

Great coins and article, @Magnus Maximus. I don’t have a Constantius II but I do have a Lucilla with my one and only VOTA reverse.- 13 replies

I’ve received my brand new, signed by the author, “Guide to Biblical Coins Sixth Edition.” I’m excited to start checking it out in depth and upgrading the Hendin numbers in my collection and posters. At the bottom left you’ll see a couple of the many, very easy to follow, conversion charts. Upgrading David Hendin’s GBC5 numbers to his GBC6 numbers should go pretty quickly. My image holding the poster is a composite of what my layout will look like with the new numbering system. I’ve echoed the book cover’s yellow subtext and blue-green verdigris. Please feel free to post your favorite coin reference books or anything you feel is appropriate.

Starting to Collect Julio-Claudian Dynasty 12 emperors
LONGINUS replied to Amarmur's topic in Roman Empire
Welcome to the forum @Amarmur You might also consider starting out with a more modest collection for example the “Five Good Emperors” or the emperors and empresses of one of the various dynasties such as the Flavians or the Nerva–Antonine Dynasty or the Severan Dynasty. Completing a small set in the beginning is fun and provides a sense of accomplishment. -

Great Titus / Vesta, David. This one is a bit worn but it was really the image of Vesta that caught my eye.

Thank you , @spaniard , for posting your gift coin from @Finn235 ! The generosity of our fellow ancient coin collectors has always been an inspiration for me. Here are a few of the gifts I’ve received over the years from my friends in the ancient coin forums.

Great question but a tough one, @Spaniard! I’d have to narrow it down to the Herod Antipas range — Hendin 1203 — 1212.

84 — and that’s where I stepped on the brakes 😉.

I’ve been concentrating on Roman imperial denarii recently but Judaeans were my first love! Here’s my latest wall sheet/poster with many upgrades since the previous version, posted on the CT site in 2020.

It’s so ugly, it’s beautiful — 😁 ! It’s fun to imagine all of the history such a coin has been through. Here’s my favorite ugly coin from my Judaean collection.

I was experiencing a few bugs in past weeks but those minor problems have worked themselves out and turned out to be on my end. I’m loving it. The design is tasteful, easy on the eyes, well organized, and easily navigated. Many thanks for a great site ⭐⭐⭐ ! —DR
