  1. @Roman Collector — have you ever thought about creating a series of coffee table books? All kidding aside, I seriously admire all of the work and attention to detail that you put into your posts!
  2. Fun post, @Roman Collector — and lots of great coins from the contributors to the thread. Poseidon has always been my favorite of the classical Greek deities. This coin features a figure on the reverse that is named as Zeus by some dealers and Poseidon by others. Whenever I posted this coin, I labeled the figure as Zeus, until a long time member of the forums pointed out to me that if the figure is holding a trident then the figure must be Poseidon.
  3. Here are several of my latest acquisitions. Feel free to post your emperors and their kinfolk.
  4. Great thread @ambr0zie — I’m enjoying all of this beautiful avian currency. Here’s a rare one from my Judaean collection.
  5. I like your Titus artwork and coin and many thanks for the honorable mention, @CPK — Your thread will be a great one to add to over time. I have a lot of fun trying out new and different graphic presentations for my coins, both here and previously as “Deacon Ray” on the CT forum. I enjoy doing the digital graphics as much as I do the actual collecting. Before I post some samples I want to tell you that I too love Beethoven. His music is amazingly powerful and it fuels my creative drive 🎵🎨 !
  6. Beautiful coins, images, and a great compendium of interesting information, Roman Collector ! Here is my Artemis and Apollo coin. My second coin — although not featuring Artemis — illustrates Apollo and a bow-like instrument. The lyre — made from similar materials as the hunting bow — must be tightly strung to be effective.
  7. Great to see you posting in the new forum, Greg! As of this year, I too, have been following your one-per-ruler strategy. I’ve been purchasing denarii of the Roman Empire exclusively. — aka Deacon Ray
  8. Thank you for your comments, Donna! An image of the (presumed to be) Otacilia Severa is in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotekcan museum of art in Copenhagen and can be found on this Cambridge University site at: https://museum.classics.cam.ac.uk/collections/casts/otacilia-severa The images of the sculptures and castings of Commodus, Crispina, and Philip are from Wikimedia Commons and have no copyright. Many of the digital photos that I use in my posters are royalty free reference images that I’ve compiled in my years employed as a graphic designer for the Federal Government but I definitely need to do a better job of providing source information. I enjoy restoring damaged sculptures in PhotoShop and have made a few repairs to the image on the right. Another un-named version of the casting can be seen at: https://www.tumgir.com/tag/roman portrait
  9. I’m sorting through a number of great Roman denarii acquisitions and having a lot of fun reading up on them and creating these graphics. Here are a few husbands and wives. Thanks for looking and thanks for the inspiration!
  10. Here is one of several new acquisitions that I’ll be posting in the coming days. It was the image of Vesta on the reverse that initially captured my interest. Let’s see your Vesta and Vitellius coins.
  11. Welcome to the forum, @Ocatarinetabellatchitchix ⭐⭐⭐ ! Great to see that you've signed on. — Ray (aka LONGINUS, aka Deacon Ray)
  12. Great coin and post, @GordianAppreciator101 Here is one of my fairly recent acquisitions. Some victory music
  13. Great coin and post @Valentinian My first impression of yours and the coin posted by @Marsyas Mike was that the portraits resemble the actor Stephen Boyd.
  14. I had a Nerva denarius of this type a few years ago but in a moment of poor decision making, I decided to sell it. This one surpasses it’s predecessor on many levels. On a related topic — here are my denarii featuring Concordia. She’s one of my favorite Roman deities. I like to think of her as the goddess of getting along. Feel free to post your experiences relating to replacing your lost, stolen, sold, or just misplaced coins. and / or Coins featuring your favorite gods and goddesses.
  15. That’s awesome @expat — welcome to the forum ⭐⭐⭐ !
  16. OMG, I almost let Faustina Friday slip by me. Another great post, @Roman Collector!
  17. @DonnaMLYou have an amazing eye for selecting beautiful coins, relics, and all sorts of objets d'art. That’s an awesome talent.
  18. @Qcumbor— Thank you Q — and my compliments to you also on your fine collection ⭐⭐⭐ !
  19. Fascinating coins, @Spaniard! The symbols and devices are intriguing. I don’t own any but I frequently check them out when I’m shopping on VCoins. The dealer from whom I purchase Indo-Scythian coins has quite a few of them.
  20. Yes, I think you’ve found a dead ringer ⭐⭐⭐ ! I did a double take when spotted this coin on VCoins. It reminded me of the many road trips I used to make from Washington to Boston and back, in the 90s and sharing the highway with 18 wheelers with various — less than politically correct — designs on their mudflaps.
  21. Great coin, @thenickelguy! It looks as though it has seen a lot of history. When I hold a coin like that in my hand, my imagination runs wild, thinking about the many ancient hands who carried it, used it, and what they may have purchased with it. Here is my one and only Caracalla in his youth receiving an intense gaze from a statue of his older self.
  22. Not in an art gallery or museum but undisputedly the next best place. Right here in the Numis Forum 🏛️. Every couple of years I create montages of images of my collections and sub collections. This year I was so impressed with @CPK’s “Group Photo“ thread that I decided to use the pile of coins method. My Roman denarii collection has quadrupled in size since 2021 and there have been several additions to my Judaean collection. Feel free to post images from your main collecting focus. What are you most interested in?
  23. If you were expecting to see the 12 Caesars, I apologize for the clickbait. I wanted to show you my 12 Severan denarii. I was inspired by @Severus Alexander’s kind words on my "Roman Teenagers" post: Really great posters, @LONGINUS!!“Would love to see one of Severus Alexander too. He was 13 when he ascended the throne. (And married the teenaged Orbiana five years later, though a coin for her will be more difficult!”) I decided to find and purchase an Orbiana denarius and was fortunate. The one below was listed under the “New Items” category by one of my favorite dealers. My 12 Severans Feel free to post any ancient coin related comments and/or images about clickbait, the Severans, or the number 12.
