  1. Although the coins are impressive, I bet the book is what pleased you the most to acquire Q
  2. Fantastic denarius ! (jealous Q typing here) and great group of cistophoric tets Q
  3. Congrats on the birth of your daughter : been there 35 years ago and it's been nothing but good time with the kids ! My vote went to the three RR coins. I agree with you, the ones showing something else than Roma/biga are the most attractive. Since you asked for posting, here are some Q
  4. Carinus, Antoninianus - Lugdunum mint IMP CM AVR CARINVS AVG. Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right AEQVITAS. Aequitas standing left, holding scales and cornucopia. A in right field 2,88 gr - 22 mm Ref : Sear # 12339, Cohen # 8, Bastien # 533, RIC V-2 #212 Provenance : Secret Santa 2023 Next : something from the Lugdunum (Lyon) mint Q
  5. Could I post anything else than the Ivdaea Capta of his I just got from @Curtisimo as a Saturnalia gift ? Vespasian, Denarius - Rome mint, 69-70 CE IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right Captive Jewess seated right, hands tied before, trophy of captured arms behind, IVDAEA in ex. 3.22 gr - 14x17 mm - 5 h Ref : RIC II # 2, RSC # 226, RCV # 2296 Next : a Saturnalia gift you got from someone here at NF Q
  6. Since Julia Titi is out of competition for obvious reasons (the only Lady in the series, Hispania not being an actual human living person 😄), I cast my votes for JC, Nero and Titus. A beautiful selection, I wouldn't disregard any of them Q
  7. Such a fascinating Dude, couldn't have anything but a fascinating life : love the bit about your travels around the globe in your childhood LM ! Q
  8. ... and at the other end, across the pond, I've been blown away with what I received from @Curtisimo : no less than a Vespasian denarius from the IVDAEA CAPTA series ! The man is clever, I think Curtis has taken quite some time browsing my collections on line just to make sure I hadn't one already. Spot on !! I had never thought of acquiring one myself, thinking a nice example would be pricey, and attracting a lot of competition because those are so much sought after all over the world. But he did it !! Thanks a million Curtis for such a beautiful and thoughtful gift Vespasian, Denarius - Rome mint, 69-70 CE IMP CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head right Captive Jewess seated right, hands tied before, trophy of captured arms behind, IVDAEA in ex. 3.22 gr - 14x17 mm - 5 h Ref : RIC II # 2, RSC # 226, RCV # 2296 Q
  9. I am with the crowd : my three choices are the one gaining the most votes so far ... # 5 Antigonos Doson is my first choice. The Portrait of Poseidon is beautiful, but I'm in awe with the reverse since I first saw the Alberic du Chastel's example of the type a few years ago (in a book, not in hand unfortunately) # 1 who wouldn't want a lifetime JC in their collection, and this one is the kind of specimen to my taste : some minor flaws that don't distract from the coin, a distinctive and strong portrait of the dude # 2 everything is to like on this one, great style, great preservation, spectacular reverse scene, and a most interesting writeup to boot Cherry on the cake, all those provenances are astounding. I can just try to imagine the sum of work you've done searching all of them You have an admirer here Sir ! Q
  10. Beautiful Constantine @ambr0zie Here's one of mine, similar to yours, but from Ticinium Constantine The Great, AE3 - Ticinium, 3rd officina IMP CONSTAN - TINVS MAX AVG, Draped, cuirassed bust of Constantinus right, wearing laureate helmet VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP, Two victories, holding shield on wich is written VOT/PR, resting on cippus. TT at exergue 3.2 gr Ref : RC #3883 var Q
  11. The RR didrachm, the three Trajan sestertii, the Nero aureus are my favourites. That said the whole series is remarkable Thanks for sharing these beauties Q
  12. From this excellent selection I voted as many here for the Cistophorus. My two other picks are the Geta provincial (very impressive big flan with an artistic portrait and beautiful reverse) and the Valerian (finding a good style portrait of his is very difficult IMO) Q
  13. Beautiful coins. I love the Maximinus thrax sestertius and the Nero denarius. May I suggest you have your #7 Probus professionally cleaned ? It should end being very nice Q
  14. I would never buy such a coin from other than a reputable dealer who guarantees authenticity and would refund should the coin be proven fake ... unless I know very well the said coinage Q
  15. Welcome to NF and congrats on a nice coin of caligula's, they're hard to come by in such good condition Q
  16. I was expecting gold too, much of a disappointment 😞 Just kidding, nice little coin @panzerman My 3/4 antoninianus of his Quintillus, Antoninianus - Mediolanum mint, AD 270 IMP QUINTILL[VS AVG], radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right [M]ARTI PACI, Mars standing left, holding olive branch and spear 2.8 gr Ref : RCV # 11447, Yes, just silvered, you're right Q
  17. Gallienus and Magnentius are the ones I like the most, plus the Libius Severus for it's so rare !!! Q
  18. The whole lot is completely out of my fields, hence I find it fascinating to see all those novelties at once. Great collecting theme(s) Q
  19. Scrolling down your post I thought : Hey, that Augustus is great, then, Wow, that Nero is fantastic, then, OMG that Vespasian is to die for, and so on until the end. An overall great selection. My preferred one is the Vespasian because ephesus mint did a tremendous job back then, followed by the Nero and the Gordian I Thanks for sharing those beauties Q
  20. 2, 1 & 8 are my three choices from your list. 11 isn't far behind An overall great selection Q
  21. Great gifts. The portrait on the Lugdunum example is stunnig. This Aurelian is one of my first coin purchases, back in 1982 Aurelian, Aurelianus IMP AVRELIANVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right ORIENS AVG, Sol walking left between two captives. V at exergue 3,30 gr Ref : Cohen #145 Constantine the Great from Trier Constantine the Great, Follis - Trier mint, 1st officina IMP CONSTANTINVS PF AVG, Laureate and cuirassed bust of Constantine right MARTI PATRI PROPVGNATORI, Mars walking right, holding spear and shield. S A in field, PTR at exergue 7.40 gr, 26 mm Ref : RC #3864, Cohen #368 Q
  22. Even though I'm not at all into german coins, the bracteate stands out, but my favoutite are the Claudius sestertius and the octopus litra, in this order Well done on a great coinyear as it seems Q
  23. Since that thread last popped up I've added another "wolf and twins" too Anonymous, Denarius - Rome mint, 115/114 BCE Head of Roma right in winged and crested corinathian helmet, X behind, [ROMA] below Helmeted Roma seated right on pile of shields, holding spear, two birds flying in field, she-wolf to right suckling twins at Roma's feet. 3,93 gr Ref : RCV # 164, RSC # 176, Crawford # 287/1 Q
  24. Eye candy as usual. I'm blown away with what you're able to find from the artistic point of view. It perfectly illustrates the fact that it's not just a question of how much one can spend on a single coin. Thanks for sharing these treasures Q
