I bought this coin thinking it was a Shekel of Tyre. But, once it came in, I realized quickly that it’s a Demetrius II tetradrachm. At first I was disappointed because it’ll likely be a very long time before a shekel enters my budget range. But, then I chose to embrace the coolness of the sea find that it is. I carry it around in my wallet to show people if a conversation ever visits the subject of coins. Erin

Hi Everyone, The big day is almost here and, thanks to my sister, I won’t be spending it alone. 😃 Due to my dad having Covid, everything is pushed back until he’s over it, so, my sister offered to have me spend the night at her place. I can’t wait to see my niece and nephew open their gifts! 🥳 I got an email about the upcoming David Hendin auction at CNG in January. I am super excited about it and hope that I can participate. I would love to have an ex Hendin coin. There are a lot of prutah in it, so, I have my fingers tightly crossed that one can come home to me. I’m currently waiting to go through the registration process. In the mean time, I was wondering what the shipping to Canada is like. I know there’s a buyer’s fee of 22.5%. Are there any duty fees on CNG packages to Canada? I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks everyone! Erin

Thanks everyone! Sorry for the late reply. It’s been crazy here, especially at the food bank. My dad just tested positive for Covid, so, we’re hoping and praying for a full and quick recovery. He has mild symptoms, so, I hope it stays that way. I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday!! Erin

Hi everyone, I hope everybody is ready for a fantastic holiday! Very well deserved! This was my first year being able to participate in Secret Saturnalia and, boy, was it a great year to start! I had fun picking out the coin for my giftee and 🤞 that they’ve received and liked it. My Secret Santa went way above and beyond for my gift! I am very grateful for my gift! I was actually thinking about the Julian bull the other day, funny enough. I think I saw it posted in the thread about reverses and I thought to myself that would be a neat coin to get……. And now I have one!👍 Who doesn’t love a good campgate? It’s one of my favourite LRB reverses. 😃 This one is of Constantius II. I’m super excited to add another one my collection. I really like the big and bulky Byzantine coins and this one doesn’t disappoint! I can’t wait to research it! Three fabulous coins that I’m proud to have in my collection! @ominus1 has been a Santa to me for the past three/four years and it’s always a treat to see what he puts in the stocking/envelope. Again, I’m very excited to add these to my collection: A Yugoslavian 2 dinara and a large Canadian cent. 🥳🥳 I really like the large cents we had back in the day. Now we have no cents at all. 🤪 Thanks, @ominus1, you are a boss! My 3rd Santa is @Qcumbor who sent my a fabulous coin, one of my favourite Byzantines: I can never have enough of the Byzantine follis with Christ on the obverse. 😀 Thank you again to @ominus1, @Qcumbor and my anonymous Secret Saturnalia gifter. I’ll be all over the place with the reptile collection- Roman and Greek. I’m hoping to have lizards, snakes and turtles covered. I highly doubt an Aegean turtle stater is going to make it into my collection any time soon, but, I’ve discovered a couple of more affordable tiny turtles on Vcoins, which I’m really excited about. 😃 I’ve got an eye on what I hope will be my first Roman Republic denarius with a lizard on the obverse. Fingers crossed that it’ll still be there in the new year! That is a very nice croc, @Spaniard! Thank you, @Qcumbor, for your confidence, you knew all along! Lol Erin

Hi Everyone, Happy 'Almost End of November!' It's just flown by! My brother and I have birthdays 10 days apart and decided to exchange cons this year. My brother hit his gift to me out of the park! As I've mentioned before, I'm taking a bit of a break from Judaean coins and trying to focus on coins with reptiles on them. One must-have coin is the Hadrian drachm with the crocodile under Nilus from Alexandria. I was very excited when I opened the envelope and saw this: It is very nice to hold in hand! For my gift to my brother, I took inspiration from his Squidward daric and found a Constantius II imitation that resembles Beavis from Beavis & Butthead. I was pretty proud of it. 😄 He was very impressed. 🤪 It was a very fun birthday for both of us! Update on the gold coin - I spoke to the couple about what they had given me, explaining that it's genuine and approximately how much it's worth and they told me to keep it!😲 I couldn't believe it! They said that they're just happy that it's with someone who appreciates it as nobody in their family has any interest in coins. I completely wasn't expecting it and am very grateful for their generosity. So....... I think there were some pretty sweet scores made this year. 🤩 Feel free to post anything that is completely unrelated. 👍 You guys rock! Erin

Thanks everyone! I think I’ll make them aware of what they gave me. They knew nothing other than that it is a coin and I collect them. If it was a penny or quarter or something much less valuable, I wouldn’t bother. But, I think it’s the right thing to do. I’ll go with whatever decision they make about it, whether they want to swap it for another one or not. I’m still wide eyed about it. Lol. I get to tell people I ‘own’ a gold coin for a week. Gold has no business being near my collection anyways. 🤪 Erin

Hi everyone, I was given a coin for my birthday from some fellow volunteers at the food bank I’m at. They know nothing about coins, but, gave me this coin from one of their late parent’s collections. From what I can tell from my initial research is that is a Liberty Half Eagle Gold $5 coin from 1899. I’m going to bring it back to them next week. While I really appreciate their gesture, they didn’t know that they were giving me a gold coin and it’s not fair for me to keep it. It’ll be nice to enjoy it for the week, though. Lol Erin
