To some degree @Roman Collector is correct. The portraits of Gallus are difficult to find nice. Part of the problem is the haste in which the coinage is produced. The trouble is... it only gets worse.

Here's a new photo of the Volusian I posted above. @Romancollector, surely our two coins are from the same engraver, no?

At first, I thought they might be even obverse die matches, but there are too many differences. However, I do agree that they were probably from the same engraver....the style is unmistakeable!

I don't have an Aemilian but astonishingly, I have a Cornelia Supera.

SuperaParium.jpg.924520d2e6f727f84c874002846ea20d.jpg

Cornelia Supera, wife of Aemelian, Augusta, 253 CE.
Roman provincial Æ 20.5mm, 3.78 g, 7 h.
Mysia, Parium, 253 CE.
Obv: G CORN SUPERA, diademed and draped bust right.
Rev: C. G. I. H. P., Capricorn right, cornucopiae on back; globe between legs.
Refs: RPC IX, 382; Sear GI 4408; SNG Von Aulock 7448.
Notes: Sear describes a star between the Capricorn's legs, but his exemplar in the British Museum depicts a globe with an equinoctial cross, giving it the appearance of a star.

There are some very nice style portraits of Aemilian out there (like @Octavius's first coin!) but mine isn't one of them. Also, they vary so much that one is left with little idea of what the guy really looked like...

The best thing I can say about this coin is that it has been removed from a slab! 🙂
