  1. Picked up my first English hammered gold coin today, courtesy of CNG’s Feature Auction earlier today. Looking forward to welcoming it in hand Edward Iii (1327-77) AV Quarter Noble (18, 7h) Fourth Coinage, Treaty Period, Tower (London) mint, struck 1362-69, obv. Coat-of-Arms with double polylobe / Cross fleuree with lis-in-quadrilobe at center, in each angle, lion passant over lis, all within double polylobe, North 1243, Spink 1510, housed in PCGS plastic at AU 53, ex St. George Collection.
  2. Would feel more comfortable if the Facebook accusation were fleshed out more. The specifics behind the accusation are simply missing here. But I don’t think it’s reasonable to think we can only raise concerns after there has been a trial with proof that meets a “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard. Sometimes all you get, particularly when the stakes are lower and the jurisdictions are far apart, is information. Based on the credibility of the source, I’m not prepared to ignore the information, nor would I ignore a thoughtful response from the other side. Unless more is forthcoming, we are left with a lot of questions and not a lot of clarity.
  3. Indeed, I went 0 for 3 on my bids.
  4. Always a challenge when dabbling inIslamic Dynasties coins!! Wish I could help. You might find something similar if you slog through the various Tamerlane coins on Zeno.ru however.
  5. Frank does a good job of identifying and describing coin flaws in his lot descriptions, even when those flaws don’t jump out at you in the photos. Over the years I have won about 30-40 lots from him. I think he keeps it honest, if old-school. Honestly, because the photos scare off some potential bidders, the competition is lower than it could be. So I often benefit from that.
  6. My anniversary is next week. Not just by comparison, this forum is distinguished by its tolerance and civility, while maintaining a high degree of numismatic rigor. The goals here seems to be sharing knowledge and having fun. What a recipe for success. I am grateful to visit here daily. Thanks NumisForum.
  7. Was able to acquire this wonderful dinar of the Nasrid Dynasty, minted sometime during the long 14th century reign of Muhammad V. Some waviness comes with the territory on these. Granada mint. Album-411. From the current “Coronation Edition” list of A.H. Baldwin. Been looking for a while for one of these in great shape, very happy to have it in hand.
  8. Hi Donna, I recently purchased a modest (~$100) item from them. Purchased on March 7. tracking information indicated coin saw shipped on March 14, received safely by me on March 30. So no problems with my purchase. That said, the non-responsiveness is pretty unprofessional. I would hesitate to purchase again from him/them given that information. Plenty of other options out there (usually!).
  9. That’s a genuinely good looking Tet. Interesting and in an admirable state.
  10. Was curious about the son dying before being prosecuted. Couldn’t find much on line to explain the cause of death — although “mugshot mortification” seemed plausible — but a Texan with the same name was arrested in 2021 for possession of methamphetamine. Could explain a lot.
  11. Here is my one Visigothic Tremessus, a Swintilla issue (621-631) from the Emerita mint, Cayon 262. I really like this little guy.
  12. Here’s my coin-tribution: Lesbos, Myteline, EL Hekte, 2.52g, c 521-478 BCE, HGC-6 936, Bod-11, obv. Head of Ram R/rev. Incuse Head of Lion L, Rectangular Punch to R
  13. Waiting on this to arrive. Happy to add this shilling from the short-lived son of Henry VIII
  14. I plan to bid, cautiously, on two items. Both low end. And those will be conservative bid amounts. Curious if competition for items will be down generally. Also curious to see how straightforward the customs clearance process thru New York will be going forward.
  15. Appropriate that a scandal within the ancient coin arena should involve this much hubris, I suppose.
  16. My most recent medieval arrival is a Semessis of Michael III “The Drunkard” (842-67) from the Syracuse mint, SB 1694. The proverbial 2-headed coin. Coins of this Emperor seem a little harder to find in decent shape than his contemporaries. As for his nickname 🥴 it likely is a posthumous bit of character assassination by the court of his successor. Tough times.
  17. Wondering how slippery this slippery slope problem is. The issues here — legality and integrity — are tender spots.
  18. A lot of sizzle in many of these images! Here’s a humble denomination but with enormous eye appeal IMO. 1629 Bavaria 2 Kreuzer.
  19. Got this 13th century bad boy at auction during NYINC. Had been looking for one of these with the right look ever since reading the Florence section in Eric Weiner’s “The Geography of Genius”.
  20. Interestingly, that’s my personal motto. 😉
  21. Agreed that the bids seemed strong generally and on Greek bronzes specifically. I won a pair, rather fond of the design elements.
  22. An aspirational way to present one’s collection. Great work.
  23. We arrived in town by train from Boston at lunchtime, and and almost didn’t make it to the show because Jacob’s Pickles was SOOOO amazing. Thank you Savitale! Taking a break now before the Stacks auction kicks off in less than a hour. It’s my first big show and it’s pretty overwhelming (but in a great way).
