lordmarcovan Posted April 6 · Member Share Posted April 6 Just bought this for my growing Twelve Caesars set, which is now 3/4 of the way to completion, with nine emperors down and three to go! It's actually the first time I've done business with Ritter. Boy, they sure use small pictures, huh? Still, it looks pretty nice to me. Roman Empire: ca. 68-69 AD silver denarius of Galba Galba: 68-69 AD, Denarius July 68-January 69, Rome. 3.29 g. RIC 186. Obverse: Laureate head right, IMP SER GALBA CAESAR AVG. Reverse: DIVA AVGVSTA, Livia holding patera and scepter. Good Very Fine (per Münzhandlung Ritter). Ex-Münzhandlung Ritter GmbH, Düsseldorf, Germany (via MA-Shops store), 6 April 2024. 17 2
ambr0zie Posted April 6 · Member Share Posted April 6 A good, honest coin and most collectors (including me) will envy you for it. The centering is decent (especially on the obverse but the reverse is good as well, the design is intact), name is (very) readable, so can't ask for much more. My attempts to get Galba imperial coins failed, for now, as the examples I tried to get were inferior but also too expensive for my tastes. I settled with an Alexandrian tetradrachm.
Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted April 6 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted April 6 (edited) Nice Galba. I also have him in Tet format from Alexandria. With my tribute Penny of Tiberius acquisition last month I only need two more to complete my twelve Caesars Edited April 6 by Ancient Coin Hunter Added image
CPK Posted April 6 · Supporter Share Posted April 6 Very nice Galba! The portrait is strong, and the reverse is an interesting type. Congrats! FWIW, Sear narrows the date of this issue to Oct. - Nov., AD 68.

Wonderful portrait! Mine is kinda ugly but it has a worn circ cameo kinda which makes up for it.

Octavius Posted April 6 · Supporter Share Posted April 6 That is one handsome looking coin and a fantastic portrait. You're right about; Ritter, their photos for some reason don't enlarge. But I've bought several coins from them in the past and have never been disappointed. I've found them to be a great company to buy from.
