Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted November 16, 2023 · Member Posted November 16, 2023 Tiberius is an emperor whom I don't collect much; I probably only have 3 or 4. I have a respectable, unphotographed as from the early part of my collection. From the photographed part, not much. Here's a decrepit large provincial. The Alexandria Tet is too ghastly to bother posting. TIBERIUS AE 'heavy dupondius'. Struck at Augusta Emerita, Spain. laureate bust left. Reverse - AVGVSTA EMERITA, large city gate. 35mm, 24.4g. 7 Quote

Al Kowsky Posted November 16, 2023 · Member Posted November 16, 2023 This is a rare provincial bronze of Tiberius that I sold at CNG Triton XXIV ☺️. Be sure to check out the video 😉. https://auctions.cngcoins.com/lots/view/4-1E0DDU/syrtica-oea-tiberius-ad-14-37-32mm-1925-g-3h-struck-circa-ad-22-29 9 6 Quote
ambr0zie Posted November 16, 2023 · Member Posted November 16, 2023 I do not have the famous tribute penny and I don't think I will get one (personal choice - if a coin is common but expensive, it becomes unattractive for me). My favorite Tiberius coins are this Commagene dupondius And a Thessalonica with Livia on reverse . 11 Quote

CPK Posted November 17, 2023 · Supporter Posted November 17, 2023 Happy birthday to Tiberius. He had the unenviable task of filling the shoes of Augustus, and not surprisingly found it a difficult and discouraging task. He acquired a bad reputation but in actual fact he was, relatively speaking, a capable administrator. TIBERIUS, AD 14-37 AR Denarius (18.61mm, 3.72g, 12h) Struck AD 16-21 Lugdunum mint Obverse: TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS, laureate head of Tiberius right Reverse: PONTIF MAXIM, female figure seated right, holding vertical scepter and branch, on chair with plain legs above double line OCRE I 26, RCV 1763 Old cabinet toning. Some corrosion pits on reverse. Fine portrait of Tiberius. From the A.K. Collection. 11 1 Quote

Ursus Posted November 17, 2023 · Supporter Posted November 17, 2023 Happy birthday to a hapless emperor! I haven't shown this denarius in a while, which I refuse to call a "tribute penny" (a term mostly invented to market these to religious people not otherwise interested in ancient coins): Tiberius, Roman Empire, denarius, 15–18 AD, Lyon mint. Obv: TI CAESAR DIVI AVG F AVGVSTVS, laureate portrait right. Rev: PONTIF MA[XIM], Livia as Pax seated right on chair with ornately decorated legs, holding sceptre (or spear) and branch. 18mm, 2.8g. Ref: RIC I Tiberius 28; RSC II 16b; Sear 1763; Giard: Le monnayage de l'atelier de Lyon 1 (1983), group 2, 146. 6 Quote
