The boar is one of the most iconic animals found on the coins from this region. The boar has always been a symbol of fighting spirit and being a dangerous and worthy opponent,

It is generally considered that the obverse of this coin is an extremely modified portrait of Antiochos VII. The eagle on the reverse signifies that this coin is struck on the old ptolemaic standard, a standard which survived the collapse of Ptolemaic power in this region.

Fine style 100% I have the same style

On the previous page it was noted that we had gone out of order. We are continuing with L until we change letter this evening. Then we are going with I then K, then M and hopefully onwards.

Note that the Künker specimen, like mine, also appears to have an additional ligatured letter at the end of the obverse legend.

The Jochen1 2006 Forvm thread is also of interest for the speculation concerning the possible symbolism of Istros’s head being turned back, and his grasping of the tree.

This is a litra from Katane in my collection. Photo and description are from the auction house. I wish it were in better shape, but it supposedly comes from a 1906 Jacob Hirsch sale (lot 969, not 869 per the catalogue) and is R2 in Hoover (HGC Sicily 591).
