How Do you display your coins?

Over the years I’ve really struggled to find a way to display my coins in a way that could intrigue a non coin collector. Many times excitedly I’ve pulled out a well used binder full of plastic sheets containing 2x2s with the intent to explain the beautiful history in front of them, then I see the their eyes glaze over and an unenthusiastic  response.

I’ve searched forums, google, etc. finally I think I found something that may be as good as I get.

Well here is my new display, one spot for every legitimate Emperor from Augustus to Constantine XI, many missing for now. I have a third case for Wives, Daughters, Mistresses, Caesars, and Usurpers, I just haven’t had a chance to transfer them yet.

Please let me know your opinion, and/or how you display, store, etc.

Nice display !

40 years ago I was quite proud of my newbie's collection and would show it off everytime I was given the opportunity (TBH I would create the opportunity myself 😇 ).

Of course people were kind and polite enough to look at them and try very hard to show some interest...or pretend. I'm now wise enough to save people the trouble.

For now I will only show some coins on request, which is very rare, and I have selected a few items that might be of some interest to someone inexperienced. The first thing is to have something people will already know, or at least have heard of. Reason why I've chosen 40 french coins (I live in France) from early royals until pre-euro. If, and only if, they are enthusiastic and want more, I'm show the Gran' slam.

That’s awesome. The Gran’ Slam, I like it.

For me it’s basically been the first tray that people will recognize. After that excluding Constantine no one as ever heard of the other emperors.

I think your display looks great!

I've never had any luck generating interest from non-collectors. The 'glazed over' look is so familiar that now I just share my acquisitions online 🙂

In my experience, people who are not coin collectors won't be interested in even 20 coins no matter how interesting they are to those of us who care. If you can display ten well and some one looks at ten and turns out to be interested in them enough to ask questions, invite them back another time.

Great post, Egry,

I display my coins virtually and in poster format.

I really like the idea of a poster.

Beautiful! That's as close to perfection as you can get, in my opinion.

Mine is similar  - in Abafil cases.

I tried to get the Abafil trays initially. I went on their website and when I went to check out it told me to wait until some gets back to me on shipping costs. A few days later they emailed me the shipping costs, I agreed but their website still wouldn’t let me proceed. I probably emailed them 10 times with no response, so I just gave up. Then I found these lighthouse cases.

For the Abafil, were you trying to order from the US reseller https://www.coin.com/cases/ or from the Italian web site https://www.abafil.com/en/ ?

Italian website

I've ordered all of my Abafil cases and trays, from the US reseller. So far, I've never had any major problems. I live in the US.

Your posters are amazing DR/@LONGINUS!! When some of my coins were displayed at the local university, I inserted the actual coins into a poster, with an enlarged photo of the other side.  The posters were taped right on the inside of a glass panel so people could get their eye right up to the coin.  Magnifiers were provided.  It worked very well!  Then COVID hit and the display was shut down... 😢

I really wanted a display that was visually appealing whenever I was in my office at home....I like to pick up my coins regularly and had them in trays then after visiting a Roman museum in Tarraco went for a glass display case...Here's some recent photos, still has a few gaps..

Top shelf more for bronzes..

Ed Waddell, a dealer in Maryland, USA sell all sizes of Abafil trays and cases -  www.coins.com  ; Also, Alberto Zecchi , at www.albertozecchi.com has beautiful Italian crafted coin cases as well. (he is closed until 6/6. )  both of these people are easy and great to deal with.
