Another modern gold coin -- but not from the UK!

A William IV to slot in between all those Georges and Victoria. The sovereigns of William IV are (for whatever reason) difficult to find for less than four figures in British pounds, but I was able to buy this example for less than that -- even in dollars! -- because it was described as being only in "Fine" condition, and as "potentially once cleaned." But the legends and main design elements are still clearly visible (except for the details of William's hair!), so I'm happy with it.

William IV AV Sovereign 1832. Obv. Second bust*, bare head right, GULIELMUS IIII D G: -BRITANNIAR: REX F: D :/ Rev. Crowned quartered shield of arms in frame, ANNO - 1832 below, edge milled. 7.81 g.  Spink 3829B, KM 717 [Standard Catalog of World Gold Coins (6th ed 2009) at p. 699]. Purchased from Sovereign Rarities Ltd., Auction 7, 21 Sep 2022, Lot 165.

*Top of ear flat, nose points to second “I” in BRITANNIAR; see S. 3829B.

Thank you Donna😀!

I was amazed the Ivan V AV Dukat did not sell/ I was able to obtain it as an unsold lot. CNG had a VF example (only other one I have ever seen) which went very high.

Its pouring rain here, so I am still at home.

I will post another coin....one I would like to forget/ I ended up paying way too much/ got carried away.😀

A lovely Neo Classical obverse design ☺️. It's easy to miss the inscription CONSTITUCION on the pedestal unless you enlarge the image 🧐. 930886507_21Qs.jpg.ffb83c00054e68b98d84af18e7ae723c.jpg

Here's the largest gold coin that I own, one that I posted on CT, but I am not sure if I have done so on this site, so if I did, please excuse for the repetation.

Brazil was Portugal's gold rich and silver poor colony.  The gold deposits were rich and extensive.  In the third decade of the 18th century a series of very large gold coins were produced.  This example is dated 1727, the last date for this issue, from the Minas Gerais mint.

Portugal,  Brazil, John V,  20000 reis, Minas Gerais, 1727.

KM 117; FR 33

53.50 grams

Fantastic coin.  I like that it really shows the Byzantine influence on Russian coinage.  The designs within the beaded borders, the obverse 3/4 bust with scepter and the reverse with the facing relatives, directly recall solidi from 1200 to 1000 years earlier.

Here is another one of mine from Hungary under Holy Roman Empire.

AV Dukat 1633 K-B Kremnitz Mint

HRE Ferdinand II 1619-37

In 1633/ things were looking up for the Emperor. Gustav II Adolf was KIA in the Battle of Lutzen in 1632 by Imperial Hussars.

With the Swedish King dead/ the Protestant side lost their best commander.

Igot this from Polish Auction/ Antykwariat Niemczyk
