  2. They're soft - somewhat like the stuff used in flower arranging. You'd damage them if you bounced off the walls 😄 It's an impressive room which is also a Faraday Cage, so no 'phone reception or other radio reception inside. I was assured that the door opens from the inside and it did 😄 ATB, Aidan.
  3. Here are a few Brutus coins not already shown. Cr. 500/7 denarius: Cr. 506/3 denarius: This is often claimed to depict Brutus - Cr. 515/2 (corroded fourrée, but obverse isn't too bad!): Here's one of the "other Brutus", Decimus Brutus, a relation of Marcus Junius Brutus and a co-conspirator and favourite of Caesar - Decimus even convinced Caesar to attend the Senate on the fateful Ides of March. Cr. 450/1: ATB, Aidan.
  4. I was in an anechoic chamber a while back, testing our MEMS microphone ADC. Fun day 😄 ATB, Aidan.
  5. Something odd but catchy I discovered today - "Friendly Father", from North Korea. Real K-Pop! - it sounds like something that would have won a Eurovision Song Contest by a landslide in the 1980s, maybe still would. How to follow that? - how about the original Pater Patriae? Indeed, one also claiming to be the son of a God. Ruler: Augustus (Augustus) Coin: Silver Denarius CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE - Laureate head right PONTIF MAXIM - Livia seated right holding sceptre and olive branch Mint: Lugdunum (13-14 AD) Wt./Size/Axis: 3.86g / 19mm / 7h References: RIC 220 BMC 545-546 Acquisition: Ibercoin Online auction 25 June 2014 #111 25-Jun-2014 Enjoy! Aidan.

    RIP Roma?

Yes - I see from my vcoins history that I bought 32 coins from them between 2010 and 2013. They had a lot of fairly cheap coins then. This is one from 2010 - RIC 1105. I inadvertently bought the same type again from them on Vcoins in 2012... Oh well - maybe Beale will write a Bruce McNall type book about his experiences - "Fun While It Lasted" is a great read. ATB, Aidan.
  7. I got it in 2014 in a weekly "Ancient Peddler" sale from a guy who mostly sold coins and lives in a country where such things are found. Unfortunately, I've no information on where he got it and can only speculate on what it came from. Mind you, I played briefly with Photoshop tonight 😄 ATB, Aidan.
  8. I'll have a look - I'll be there from 11th to 14th May and I intend to get to this museum at some stage. ATB, Aidan.
  9. I suppose this is unusual - an eye from an ancient statue

  11. I'll be in Athens in 2 weeks and hope to make it to the Numismatic Museum. My first visit to Athens since 1989, so looking forward to it! 😄 ATB, Aidan.
  12. Coincidentally, I was going to post a 1759 half guinea 😄 Here's a lyre instead. 14. What are the weight and diameter? It doesn't look like a genuine George VI coin. This, for example, is an unexciting halfpenny with the same obverse legend: ATB, Aidan.
  15. The case seemed to move on the website and it seems to be progressing very slowly (though I know nothing about these matters). https://iapps.courts.state.ny.us/webcrim_attorney/Detail?which=case&docketNumber=m52H5JZ5W7KM2NEWgvSc5jT9i2eREBcJf_PLUS_ZwWAFKwfI=&courtType=U&countyId=K4i18rFVPQh5HTQ/kUoO3Q==&docketId=3gbtRNdkovun89tcAxf0dg==&docketDseq=T/O1YN_PLUS_BG65HkOeqEnpAkw==&defendantName=Beale,+Richard&county=&court=New+York+Supreme+Criminal+Court&recordType=U&recordNum= ATB, Aidan.

  19. Here's a recent small coin - Metapontum obol - it's one "in the pipeline", but at least I've taken photos. Naville's description: Lucania, Metapontum Obol circa 430-400, AR 9.00 mm., 0.41 g. Head of Heracles r., wearing lion skin. Rev. Grain ear. Historia Numorum Italy 1506. SNG Ahmolean 1802. Old cabinet tone and Very fine From the collection of a Mentor. ATB, Aidan.
  20. I got an 1826 shilling in change in the 1980s - before the 5p and 10p were reduced in size, shillings and florins were fairly common, but I only ever found two silver ones - this and a 1917 shilling. I wonder how it stayed in circulation so long - anyway, I rescued it 😄 ATB, Aidan.
  21. Thanks - I had copied and pasted from Google Photos, now I've uploaded them. ATB, Adan.
  22. These are waiting to be photographed. Some of these have already been photographed but haven't moved very far thereafter! These have already been added to Tantalus but not yet made it to a final home in a tray somewhere: It's hard to keep up and an endless process of reorganising 😄 Happy collecting! ATB, Aidan.
  23. I got a few books from LAC in their recent auction, including all of Spink's monthly Numismatic Circulars from 1901 to 1910: Also, last month I got the 1933 sale catalogue of the Haeberlin Collection - I think I've only one coin from it, but will look more closely now. I need more shelf space now 🙂 ATB, Aidan.
