Kali Posted April 21 · Member Share Posted April 21 (edited) There is a non numismatic item I've been thinking of getting, but it's located in Portugal and I have never bought anything from there. It isn't any great antiquity, more like 1944. This would also be my first purchase, from over seas, since before Covid struck. Has anyone bought from Portugal within the last year or two, and if so, how was the experience? Especially when it hit customs? What was the wait time, from mailing, to delivery? I've bought from plenty of over seas countries before, but never there. Thanks for any replies. Edited April 21 by Kali
expat Posted April 21 · Supporter Share Posted April 21 I have only purchased once from Portugal, coins via an auction. Delivery was slow even though it borders us here in Spain. Doesn´t really relate to your question, but the point was there was no delay with customs probably because it was EU to EU. If you reside in a country outside of the EU it could be vastly different.

It isn't a 3 figure item, but still, would be a shame to see get lost.
Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted April 21 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted April 21 (edited) I have bought one coin from a dealer in Portugal and was delivered by USPS. Coin flew through the ISC NY and was delivered in like 5 days. The dealer used a signature required form of delivery, not sure of the class of mail. Edit: I was in California at the time. John Conduitt Posted April 21 · Supporter Share Posted April 21 I've bought from Portugal a couple of times and delivery was no different to anywhere else in the EU. No obvious delay at customs at all. I didn't need a special permit or anything, though.

Prieure de Sion Posted April 21 · Member Share Posted April 21 It’s not the same as Spain (minimum 6 weeks for documents). Portugal parcels are the same as from other EU country’s like Germany, France, Denmark etc.
panzerman Posted April 22 · Member Share Posted April 22 I have gotten nice material from Numisma auctions/ Lisbon (8 times in past 6 years. All the coins were sent discreet via reg. letter/ all arrived within 7-9 days at my house. Very nice to deal with. John
Croatian Coin Collector Posted August 3 · Member Share Posted August 3 I haven't, all of the Portuguese coin auctions I have seen mostly sell coins from Portugal and it's former colonies, and the only one that was of interest to me was a Suebi gold coin, but it had a crazy price, so I didn't bid on it.
