pet peeve biddr auctions

When checking out coins on their auction platform/ this happens. Thing comes up/ I am not a robot/ then you have to pickout cars on a street scene??????

This is so annoying! Plus it makes no sense/ why are they worried about collectors/ bidders checking out their auctions? If I were running a auction site/ I WOULD WANT lots of traffic=more bidders=higher hammer results=happy consignees=great for biddr!

I admit that some of those things are more difficult to complete correctly than others. My success rate has not been 100%!

I know, they're awful!  And they always have the fuzziest images known to man, and expect one to pick out tiny objects.

I agree with @Phil Anthos. It's probably to prevent bots from searching (to collect statistics, or to automatically search for certain coins, which could overload the web site with too much traffic) or attacking (denial of service attack by spamming and therefore overloading) their web site.

They get two for one. One, the eliminate lots of bots. Two, they help train self-driving cars.

I understand that this is annoying. It's to prevent certain bots (the kind that doesn't follow the robots.txt instructions) from crawling our site too aggressively. I think even more annoying would be a slow site due to some crawlers eating up all the resources 🙂

Also, this should only happen if you change pages very quickly many dozens of times over a certain period of time.

I'm not a robot.  Captchas are 10/10 on my pet peeve list.  It's just the pits.  Especially when one has a bad eye.

I trawl the upcoming auction pages on Biddr every day and have never seen an anti robot captcha appear on screen yet.

The funny thing is that computers (recent AI) actually outperforms humans on CAPTCHAs, so maybe we'll need to start acting dumb to ensure identifying as human ... until the AI's wise up and start acting dumb too!
