Ryro Posted December 16, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted December 16, 2023 (edited) When you scratch it with your finger nail does a light green chalky substance come off? If so, then, yes. However, if it is hardened then it is normal and a good patination. But I'm not seeing anywhere that's its eaten away the metal. So I'm thinking not BD. But the picture of the reverse is harder to tell. Ps, beauuuuuutiful portrait btw Edited December 16, 2023 by Ryro

Ryro Posted December 16, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted December 16, 2023 Well rats. I used google lens to look the coin up and see what price it is and if it's in a price range that I like😉 Fortunately for others I couldn't find it. Well, good luck and hopefully the green scares others away. It wouldn't stop me. 2

CPK Posted December 17, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted December 17, 2023 It looks more like a partial patina to me. I don't think it's bronze disease. 1
Prieure de Sion Posted December 17, 2023 · Member Share Posted December 17, 2023 The transition is often fluid; you can't always rule it out or confirm it based on pictures. It is best to keep such critical, unclear pieces in quarantine away from other coins and observe the bronze very closely over a certain period of time.
Octavius Posted December 18, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted December 18, 2023 Does not look like bronze disease to me. Looks like verdigris or copper carbonate. Nice coin. 1
