MrZun Posted December 5, 2023 · Member Author Posted December 5, 2023 And after Just 5 min of cleaning, an odd thing got revealed, somo sort of damage that the coin got and the patina covered it above the coin close to the letters COS, is that normal or nothing to be afraid of or should i worry? David Atherton Posted December 5, 2023 · Member Posted December 5, 2023 I would leave it alone. It's a perfectly respectable denarius as is. 3 2 Quote
Benefactor Ancient Coin Hunter Posted December 5, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Posted December 5, 2023 The dark highlighting is sort of a desirable feature as the devices on the coin stand out as does the portrait. I actually had a very similar one (Domitian) to yours once. So if I were you I would not over clean it. 1 Quote

Greekcoin21 Posted December 5, 2023 · Member Posted December 5, 2023 Looks in reasonable condition maybe work on the provenance Quote
Tejas Posted December 5, 2023 · Member Posted December 5, 2023 The dark grey area is the original surface of the coin, which has experienced some chemical reaction. The shiny parts are areas, were this original dark grey surface has been removed by cleaning. I would definitely leave the coin as it is. Quote
Ryro Posted December 5, 2023 · Supporter Posted December 5, 2023 More often than not, when you "clean" an ancient coin you will just reveal more flaws. I would recommend not revealing and more flaws. Quote
