Ryro Posted January 6 · Supporter Share Posted January 6 (edited) As some may know, I have a shop on ebay that I keep operating via snacks that I get good deals on to accompany my marks bought at auction, as well as selling off coins that no longer fit my collection (non Macedonian shield coins). I ship immediately upon payment, like to throw in additional coins for returning customers and have 100% feedback in over 1.7K sales! *actual footage of my first customer receiving her items Check me out and save me if you like what you see: https://www.ebay.com/usr/rpslc11 2022 hit me in the shins like a baseball bat that was tired of hitting me in the testies. So, let my woes be your hey-Os! This Sunday, at 5pm EST, you have a ton of fun coins to choose from: Roman Republic, Roman, provincial, Greek, Persian, Sassanian, Celtic, weights, rocks, ancient weaponry, and even an ithyphallic Satyr! Here are just a few of the coins up for Sunday: (he didn't get like that until after she showed up) (for those that like em cut) (good to see Marilyn likes what she sees) If you are a member of this site, please feel free to reach out with offers (some coins I can afford to sell to friends at cost) and let me know if you win so that I can gift you for checking out my services. I'm happy to combine shipping on multiples. And if you have questions about provenance I'll tell you exactly where I got it from and if requested will give my collectors tags along with anything else that came with the coin. But most importantly, if you buy from me the ladies will look at you like this: Edited January 6 by Ryro 8 1 2 1 1 1

Yes it's a pity eBay's Global Shipping Program is so padded with inflated costs it makes it uncompetitive. As a seller, you even have to inflate your prices a little to allow for some random US state that decides they're going to tax more (which for reasons I can't work out comes off your bottom line, rather than being added to the buyer's cost). 2

Yeah... can't sellers opt out of this, @Ryro? For shipping to Canada it's invariably messed up, with lots of incorrect charges added. 1

The problem (and the benefit of GSP) is that the seller would have to take the full risk of whichever country's postal system it is, and work out the taxes (because they will be on them). With GSP, you only have to get it to their hub using domestic post. But you can opt out for specific countries, so that might work for somewhere you trust (e.g. Canada) if you ship enough to make it worth it. That should reduce the price for those buyers. But I've never tried it. 1

Yes, about the risk, but aren't the taxes normally paid by the recipient, upon receipt? That's how it works in Canada, at least.
Benefactor DonnaML Posted January 6 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted January 6 Hey, @Ryro. Is that actually a photo of you on your ebay account? You look like you're about 17 years old! Some nice stuff, by the way. 1

On the other hand, those I received in a normal envelope with stamps, have always arrived quicker and no taxes to be paid.

I think the US, EU and UK now have some rule about collecting sales taxes up front from sellers of a certain size (including platforms), and eBay counts as that. This would be another reason to use eBay's GSP - they do the paperwork. Before the new tax rules, it wasn't too bad (you needed to know the right code for coins for customs purposes) but the new tax rules make it more of a minefield.
