Damn it was on my watch list, but I completely forgot it ! Anyway it sold for more than I could afford: estimation between 600,000-900,000 GBP, hammer price at 7,717,000 GBP… Very big for a Roman bust: 38 inches of height. Found at Pozzuoli Raffaelle Barone, Naples. Description of Sothebys: monumental in size, the emperor with his head turned to his left, his mature face with thoughtful countenance, full beard and moustache, deep-set eyes with incised irises and dotted pupils, and incised eyebrows, his thick hair radiating from the crown in long wavy locks and massed in rich deeply drilled and unruly voluted curls around the forehead and temples, and wearing a tunic, cuirass, and paludamentum fastened with a circular brooch on the right shoulder, the fringed hem of the cloak falling in zigzag folds from the left shoulder, the entire bust and its socle carved in one piece; head repaired at the neck, the nose, chin, and right eyebrow restored.

7.7 million pounds for a broken bust that's glued back together! I should sell that old lamp in my basement.

Here are five sestertii of Antoninus . My favorite are the triumphal chariot reverse and Antoninus as  Sol.

Lastly an As with two crossed cornucopiae...

Nice coins posted!

That's a very impressive marble bust.  If I owned it, I would have to add an addition to the house just to accommodate it.

I'll stick to coins.

Antoninus Pius, sestertius, 156-57 AD , Rome, Anona Standing.

RIC 980 Rome

25.4 grams
