kapphnwn Posted November 4, 2022 · Supporter Share Posted November 4, 2022 H is for Heraklea Pontika Ar Tetradrachm of Heraklea Pontika 235-200 BC In the name and types of Alexander III Obv Beardless head of Herakles in lions skin Headdress. Rv Zeus Aetophoros seated left Price 936a v Stancomb 840 v 17.01 grms 27 mm Photo by W. Hansen I owned this coin for close to ten years before discovering what it actually was. Initially I bought it as an issue minted by Audoleon but realized upon receiving the coin that attribution was wrong. For a number of years I thought that the coin came from either Kallatis or Kalchedon. However while at NYINC I spoke to an individual who steered me in this direction. The "Black Sea" Alexander's are still shrouded in some controversy. 11

Di Nomos Posted November 4, 2022 · Member Share Posted November 4, 2022 This is one of the first ancient coins I ever bought, from a local Aussie dealer. Wanted a coin of Alexander the Great. From the Babylon mint, not life time though. Now I'm keeping it to see if my youngest daughter will have an interest in ancient coins. Will make a great B/day or Xmas present. If not will probably sell one day, it's not a coin I look at too often now. Almost forgot- H for Herakles. 8 1
