  1. Congrats on your wins everyone! I was the underbidder on all 3 of my targets, including @Julius Germanicus’ Macrinus. I bid in the last 5 seconds for all three lots and was sniped at the 1 second mark. Oh well…there’ll be other auctions I suppose. I’ve never had particularly good luck with Leu so I shouldn’t be too surprised. 😞
  2. I have only one coin of Constantius II, my AR Miliarense from the Thessalonica mint
  3. I sent an email to them. I won a lot, but it is after lot 240. As @robinjojo said, it is completely unfair if a live bidder makes a bid and wins, only for the lot to be reopened.
  4. It's part of Bulgari's monete jewellery collection. Some of the regular pieces are viewable on their website https://www.bulgari.com/en-int/jewellery/monete. In most cases, they use lower-grade common coins. I cannot however clearly see whether the OP coin falls into this category. I do agree that the coin in question is a Divus Augustus as issued by Tiberius. IMO the markup for a mounted piece of junk is quite ridiculous. Here's a similar example to the type shown by the OP https://eleuteri.nyc/collections/bulgari-rare-large-monete-necklace/. Bulgari does, however, sometimes use exceptional coins, which irks me. I posted about their use of Constantinian multiples for watches in this thread .
  5. Here's my SARMATIA DEVICTA AE3/Reduced Follis of Constantine I, like OP's coin it is also from the Sirmium mint
  6. Nice addition @Al Kowsky Your Maximinus has a solid portrait and a beautiful uniform dark patina.....your Maximus is a standout piece. I was hoping to pick up a sestertius of Maximus with the same reverse as yours, but I settled with the example below.
  7. Nice win Phil! I monitored the sale. I had a few targets in this auction but didn't bother with them because I already picked up a piece at CNG this week, and Heritage a few weeks earlier. My targets were all in the Aes Augustorum segment. While the auction achieved solid hammer prices overall, the pieces I wanted only gained one or two additional bids from the pre-bidding....oh well 🙃
  8. Here's my example of the type which I added not too long ago. The verism of the portraiture is really what attracted me to this type. Denarius of L. Marcius Philippus obv. head of Ancus Marcius/rev. Aqua Marcia surmounted by equestrian statue
  9. I suppose this is a common coin and arguably better than the average example. AE follis of Diocletian from Aquileia mint - rv. Moneta holding scales and cornucopia
  10. Like others, my collection ends with Honorius. Here’s my only coin of the emperor: a solidus from Mediolanum (Milan). Despite the odd flan, I thought the strike and style were superior for the issue. The reverse depicts the emperor trampling on a seated Barbarian captive - an ironic statement given the emperor’s incompetence in military affairs.
  11. I recently acquired a dream architectural coin...however, I will wait to post it until it arrives. For now, I will post this as my contribution. Denarius of Octavian - rv. rostral column
  12. Magnentius AE Double Centenionalis from Lugdunum rv. Chi Rho
  13. Here's my follis of Crispus, eldest son of Constantine I. This is probably the cheapest coin in my entire collection, but I'm still very fond of it. It has beautiful strikes on both sides and decent silvering.
  14. I imagine that Constantine will have the most entries out of all the emperors given the abundance and accessibility of his coinage. Here's my contribution. AR Half Argenteus from Trier ex. British Museum collection
  15. Perhaps not quite "chinless" but I do think this portrait of Ancus Marcius has a receding chin! RR Denarius of L. Marcius Philippus, which I picked up in the last Kunker sale from the Frizotto Bauss collection I always liked the type because of the veristic portraiture. Let's see another veristic Republican portrait (not Ancus)
  16. I purchased 2 abafil trays at NYINC because they were on sale and I figured why not, might be fun to make displays with some of my coins every so often. However, I do not store them in this way; my coins are usually in SAflips in boxes.
  17. AE Follis of Constantius I from Antioch I loved this coin because of Constantius' intricate beard
  18. Nice addition, @DonnaML Aquileia is more difficult to acquire than mints such as Trier, Lugdunum...etc.. Here's my most recent siliqua. I wanted this coin, which was sitting in a dealer's inventory, for over a year. I never purchased it because I thought the price was absurd. I spoke with the dealer before the August ANA show, and he assured me he would bring his full inventory of ancients to the show. Fast forward to the show, and when I go to his table he already locked up the all ancients (with the exception of a few aurei) and wouldn't let me see them. A few weeks later, the coin disappeared from the dealer's website. When I saw this coin pop up in a recent Stack's auction with other items from that dealer's inventory, I knew I had to win it. Unfortunately, I only saved $100 or so when fees and shipping are taken into account. Nevertheless, I'm very happy to have the coin. Valentinian I (AD 375-392) AR Siliqua (18mm, 2.23 gm). Thessalonica mint. AD 364-367. DN VALENTINIANVS PF AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / RESTITV-TOR REIP, emperor standing front, looking right, holding labarum and Victory on globe. Mintmark TES. RIC IX 12a. Ex Stack's Bowers World Collectors Choice Online Auction (27 February 2023), lot 71154. Ex Spink Auction 16006 (27 September 2016), lot 2903. Ex East Harptree Hoard (1887).
  19. Here's my only coin of Carus, BI Antoninianus rv. RESTITVT ORBIS
  20. Here's my only coin of Tacitus, an antoninianus from Rome.
  21. My only two coins depicting two people both feature Agrippina Jr.: one with her husband/uncle, Claudius; the other with her son, Nero
  22. Something sort of similar happened to me with a Kuenker auction about 2 years ago. I was interested in a solidus in their fall sale. The opening bid was low, and I threw in a few bids, but kept getting outbid....I thought ok, why not throw in one more bid....I did, and then the screen froze for a solid 5-7 seconds. The screen then said something to the effect that I was winning, the only problem is that my winning bid was 1,200 euro over my intended max....I began to panic since the coin was not attracting any additional bids and it began to close....3,2....just before it hit 1, someone else threw in one final bid and I was saved....
  23. At first, I thought they might be even obverse die matches, but there are too many differences. However, I do agree that they were probably from the same engraver....the style is unmistakeable!
  24. I have no coins of Trebonianus Gallus, but I do have one coin of his son, Volusian. AE Sestertius ex Vierordt Collection
