  2. The video doesn't play for me 😞 Pierce seems a very nice guy - he's completely down-to-earth and nothing like the typical rockstar at his gigs. He's played Glastonbury, shared the bill on a Tibet House Benefit Concert with Iggy Pop and Patti Smith and his first two albums were produced by Philip Glass, so plenty of critical cred. https://www.pierceturner.com/bio/ I first heard of him in the mid-1990s when two friends of mine set aside their enmity to share a taxi to a gig at a remote pub in County Cork (Connolly's of Leap, IIRC). Pierce tends to play small venues and did one Irish tour where he played in private houses. Anyone who had a decent piano and enough room for a few guests to sit in (15) could ask him to play. https://m.independent.ie/regionals/wexfordpeople/news/pierce-makes-house-calls-on-a-tour-with-a-difference-27684069.html 2004, it didn't seem that long ago! ATB, Aidan.
  3. I just saw that Pierce Turner is playing in Dublin next month - I'll definitely go! A review of a Pierce Turner album I read a long time ago said something to the effect that in a parallel universe Pierce would be #1 worldwide. If the Many Universes theory is true, then he is and that world is probably a better place. Here's one that arrived yesterday - a Roman Republican cast as, post-semi-libral weight standard, so not huge. Æ-As, 215/212 BC, anonym; 88,38 g.BMC 23; Crawf. 41/5 a; Syd. 101. ATB, Aidan.
  4. My coins arrived today in a nice Kuenker box. The as broke out of its flip, but didn't escape the box 😄 Cr. 41/5 & Cr. 500/7 (Brutus denarius). Very happy with them 🙂 ATB, Aidan.
  5. A nice box from the recent Kuenker sales was on my doorstep tonight 🙂 I'll take better photos later, but here they are - Cr. 41/5 as and Cr. 500/7 denarius 🙂 ATB, Aidan.
  6. Here's a miserable enough didrachm - some previous owner thought it would be a good idea to scratch it a bit, to improve it, I suppose... Gens: Anonymous Coin: Silver Didrachm - Helmeted head of Mars left, oak-sprig behind ROMANO - Legend on tablet below head of bridled horse right, ear of wheat behind Mint: Metapontum? 7. Here's a Caracalla large coin from Antioch in Pisidia that I got a few years ago: Ruler: Caracalla (Augustus) Region, City: Pisidia, Antioch Coin: Bronze AE33 IMP CAE M AVR ANTONINVS PIVS AVG - Laureate bust right COL CAES ANTIOCH - she-wolf standing right below tree, suckling the twins Romulus and Remus Exergue: SR Mint: (ca 198-217 AD) Wt./Size/Axis: 27.19g / 33mm / 7h References: Krzyzanowska pl. 39, 70 SNG France 1141-1143 BMC 46 Acquisition: Roma Numismatics Online Auction E-Sale 21 #522 31-Oct-2015 ATB, Aidan.
  8. It's probably the Blue Banti - "I Grandi Bronzi Imperiali", which covers sestertii. I have the Red (Republican) and Green Banti sets (early Imperial coins), but not the Blue, so can't help. Looks like vol. III-2 from this upcoming auction of the 9-volume set - you may be able to find it on its own: https://www.deamoneta.com/auctions/view/843/353 ATB, Aidan.
  9. Centenary of the first Transatlantic flight by Alcock & Brown in 1919. ATB, Aidan.
  10. Very worn Port of Ostia sestertius. Next - another coin of Nero.
  11. I got something the second day too, so not bad! I'll try not to jinx them by posting 'til they arrive 🙂 Congrats on successful bids, all. Aidan.
  12. Wow! Whoever let that through should be fired. "SCARCE"... hmmm, one of the most common RR denarii. Madness! Aidan.
  13. My CD copy of Telefís a Dó arrived this week and it's great. Sad that it will be the last work of Cathal Coughlan 😞 Here's a short one The Age of Cling: Here's a little fifth stater instead of the stater which I'd already posted recently! Rock on...
  14. Here's an example of Cr. 432/1 I've had for almost 10 years - it's very dark. ATB, Aidan.
  15. I won a RR cast as in Kuenker today. I threw in a lot of fairly low bids ages ago and was pleasantly surprised to win this. I have several more bids in tomorrow, so maybe my luck will hold 😄 I also got something in CNG's auction today. ATB, Aidan.
  16. OK - kantharos, also late 4th century BC coin. 17. Plenty of big noses on display. I'm not sure what's going on here on the reverse of this victoriatus - Artemide suggested a "die scratch" - maybe the engraver felt the trophy needed a prop or, who knows? I think it's Cr. 166/1: ATB, Aidan.
  18. Here's a New Style owl with the owl on an amphora. State, City: Attica, Athens Coin: Silver Tetradrachm - Head of Athena right, in Attic helmet ΑΘΕ - Owl standing right on amphora; BE monogram and cicada to left, MI monogram to right, B on amphora, all within wreath. 19. I've assembled a Vast and Varied Roman Republic-related list of Vs. Someone posted something somewhere recently referring to happenings at the Temple of Vespa, and indeed such modern-day chariots of gods and mortals probably have their own temple: though it may have been a typo' and the intended temple was that of Vesta, seen here on the reverse of Cr. 428/2: V is for Victory, flying right with a wreath here on the reverse of Cr. 61/1: An Anonymous V as, Cr. 87/1: A VB Victoriatus, Cr. 95/1A: A VAL as, Cr. 191/1: A Veturia gens moneyer's denarius, Cr. 234/1: A Vargunteia gens denarius, Cr. 257/1: The reverse of a Vibia gens moneyer's denarius, Cr. 342.1: A Vergilia denarius, Cr. 350A/1e: The reverse of a Valeria gens moneyer's denarius, Cr. 365/1b: A denarius of L. Volumnius Strabo, Cr. 377/1 (reverse of): Reverse of a denarius of M. Volteius M.f., Cr. 385/3: Reverse of a Vettia denarius, Cr. 404/1: Reverse of a denarius of L. Vinicius, Cr. 436/1: ATB, Aidan.
  20. This might look a fine Augustus denarius, but it's two different coins 😄 The full pics aren't so exciting. RIC 199 denarius (auction photo'): RIC 187a denarius (my own really bad old photos, I need to update them with the better newer photos): No prizes for guessing the sides that stay up in the tray for these 🙂 ATB, Aidan.
  21. I'd forgotten about Lansky and that thread. Looking in that sale of 2020, I see they describe a scarce Augustus "Tribute Penny" as the common Tiberius version - https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=3962&lot=182 That said, I'm tempted to bid on at least one coin in the the latest auction 😄 ATB, Aidan.
  22. A pile of books just arrived from the last St. James auction. I was already out of shelf space, so this doesn't help, but some interesting volumes at good prices. ATB, Aidan.
  23. This isn't a valid entry as it's from Constantinople, but it's the only Constantius II Fallen Horseman I have, so... ATB, Aidan.
