  1. Around US$70 if I didn't already have one (albeit 1851) (My catalogue $40-$60)
  2. @DonnaML (On another thread you asked "EDWARD VIII"?) As we all know, King Edward VIII abdicated (before his Coronation) so that he could marry an American divorcee who went by the name of Mrs Wallace Simpson. (Didn't we do this all too recently with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?) Anyway, to the best of my (limited) knowledge the UK did not release into circulation any coins that bore King Edward VIII's name, however, some British dependencies did. One of those was British West Africa, and together with a Commemorative (Coronation) Medallion (not a coin) of King Edward VIII, I have posted the coin that I have, here. Ref: KM#16
  3. James II was 'turfed out' in 1688 and replaced by William and Mary, so he headed to Ireland where he tried to build a 'force' to retake the throne. He started a mint at Limerick and made coins from old cannons and church bells, melted down, to pay his troops. All coins were dated 1690.
  4. Crowns are my favourite coin, too. Here are some (about half) of mine. James II 1690 (Gun Money)
  5. @Magnus Maximus Great write-up. Fantastic. Thanks for all of the information.
  6. That appears to suffice. I will try that for a while. Thank you.
  7. Architect's Map Drawers (or similar)make the best storage/display platform.
  8. Only goes 'half-way' as "Unread Content" includes answers to posts, and therefore doesn't filter out 'old' posts. A heading might be "NEW POSTS".
  9. Not that long ago we were asked to come up with some ideas on how to improve this site. I may be a little late, but . . . . here goes. Appearing in a column on each page (on the right hand side) are several boxes Titled "Numis Forum News", and "Who's Online", and "Member Statistics. I would find it of great help if there was a box titled "Most Recent Posts" (not replies, but 'new' Posts). On the first page, (and subsequent pages), there are a lot of 'old' Posts with new comments on them and I have no problem with that being the case, but I don't want to wade through a lot of Posts that I have already decided are of little interest to me to find a 'recent' Post that I have not yet seen, which may be of interest. Featuring them in a 'box' in the column on the right hand side would be an excellent feature IMHO. What do you think?

  12. I am NOT trying to offend anyone, and I apologize in advance if anyone takes offense, but there seems to be a propensity for people to post the largest photographs of a coin they can make. (What they hope to achieve by doing this I do not know.) When you look at these 'oversized' pictures they are distorted and confusing. I have to get out of my chair and move to the other side of the room to see what I am looking at. I have found that in order to see them clearly one has to reduce their size to 3 inches (or less), which I do not always do. Sometimes I just move on to another thread. Can the posters please look at their 'oversized' pictures and then at some of the smaller ones (the 3 inch ones from people who know better) and compare the two for ease of interpretation? I think that the results are obvious. What do people think?
  13. @Magnus Maximus What a great piece of insight into the history of the time. Love the 'write-up. Thank-you.
  14. Very interesting. A good write-up. Thank-you.
  15. Gold leaf from the laurel wreath of a victor in battle. Greek Gold Laurel Wreath from Crete 4th-3rd Century BC
  16. Your 1831 William IV is going for a little over US$1700, (ATM), but an MS64 graded one is going for (more than) 10 times that amount. Nice pick-up there.
  17. 1913 George V (Large Head) Gold Sovereign from the Perth mint. (Key Date. Last gold sovereign struck in Australia before WWI.)
  18. Hi Donna, I think that John Lennon said it best. "What if they gave a 'war' and nobody came?"
  19. I have (too many) Constantius II coins, but here are a few. (1) Constantius II RIC VIII. Arles 261 FER 1030 Siliqua (Ex Magnus Maximus) (4) CONSTANTIUS II RIC VII Heraclea 84b (12) CONSTANTIUS II RIC VIII. Aquileia 241 (13) CONSTANTIUS II RIC VIII. Siscia 176 (22) CONSTANTIUS II RIC VII Siscia 217 (24) CONSTANTIUS II RIC VIII. Siscia 240 S
  20. I have been cleaning some 'old' (pardon the pun) coins and have been surprized at some of the finds. Here I found a 221-179 B.C. Tetrachalcone of King Philip V, of Macedon. AE18mm., 4.43gm. Obv: Head of hero Perseus right, wearing winged Griffin helmet Rev: B A above Eagle standing left on a lightning bolt, wings open, head right. EP monogram to the left Amphipolis mint Ref: SNG Cop. 1276 var. (This brings my 'Macedon' coin total to 60. Not something I was aiming for but something that just 'happened'.)
  21. @Curtis JJ I think you've got it with your first guess. ( I had forgotten Artemis.) It even accounts for the bull's tail raised and coming forward along it's back (can just be seen on my coin). Thank you for your contribution.
  22. I have this AE20.3mm., 5.01gm. Greek(?) bronze coin, the style of which looks familiar, but I cannot place it. The obverse has what could be the bust of Venus(?) right, in a circle of 'dots', and the reverse has a leaping lion (or horse ), with, (what appears to be), the letters T A N below. (There may be letters above) Any suggestions would be gratefully received. Thank you.
  23. In my hunt for a good photography setup (for my coins) I purchased the Tomlov DM 101 . I have evaluated it and I conclude that it is not suitable for photographing coins, by collectors, (IMHO), and therefore should be avoided to miss the disappointment of having purchased something that does NOT return the desired results. Does it work - Yes ( . . . to a degree). Will you be happy with the end result - No! (Coin collectors can be very 'fussy'). Therefore, is it worth the money - No! Being unhappy with the results, you will purchase a better photography system and this unit will be consigned to the back of a drawer, never to see the light of day, again. This second photo has had some 'extra' light introduced from the LHS.
