  3. Doug you're right. I tried looking for a child Caracalla and could not find a one. Ironically, my coins of Geta are ALL of him as a small child and not one as an adult! Sometimes we tend to forget that Geta was actually 22 at the time of his death and co emperor. Your Securitas sestertius is just mesmerizing.
  4. I won't be able to attend, but if you've never been to a coin show before , you really ought to try to attend. There is nothing like the excitement and energy of a show, especially the ANA and the NY international. I doubt you would be disappointed.

  19. August 2nd is the anniversary of the battle of Cannae in 216 BCE. This was one of the worst defeats suffered by any Roman army. After terrible losses to Hannibal at Trebia, and again at Lake Trassimeno, during the second Punic war, Rome was again crushed at Cannae and lost about 60,000 troops. Surrender was never considered. Rome went on to eventually win the war against Carthage , and her nemesis, Hannibal , subsequently committed suicide. Countless thousands of lives were lost on both sides. post any coins you feel appropriate to remember this event... Roman uncia C.218 BCE...
