  1. I haven't been to any coin shops for the last couple months. At my local shop, I saw that the owner had a small envelope of unidentified Italian coppers which had been sitting around for quite some time. I figured that the time was good to see if he would sell them all together as a lot to get rid of them. They are in rough condition, but pretty typical for the time period. At less than $1 US each I think I probably got a good deal. My attempts at ID so far: Venice seems the most prevalent. Some IDs may be questionable, as the text is hard to make out. For minors of this era there are often variations, so the text doesn't always match up perfectly to what I can find on Krause or Numista (if they are listed at all). Please post any Italian States coins if you like! Venice 1 Soldo Francesco Erizzo 1631-46 Venice 1/2 Soldo ND 1619 Sicily 1 Grano Victor Amadeus II 1714-17 Vatican 1 Quattrino Pope Alessandro VIII 1690 Venice 1 Soldo Giovanni Corner II 1709-12

  2. Some Napoleon silvers I got about 5 years ago. I bought the 5 francs for near melt as it had been deliberately defaced, probably when memories were still fresh.
  3. I'm weak on the exact geography, but I think this overlaps Poland some? Silesia-Leignitz-Brieg 1663 15 Kreuzer Duke Georg III Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth 3 Grosze 1623 Poland-Lithuania 1614 3 Polker Poland city of Schweidnitz 1/2 groschen Louis II 1521 Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth 3 Polker 1622 Sigismund III Vasa
  4. Nice coin! I do like Italian/Papal States coin, but rarely find them that old. Here's a jubilee year Quattrino. I think it's Gubbio 1750.
  5. I've got a few. I'm working on a type set of the Canadian provincials, but the Newfoundland gold two dollars and one of the New Brunswick half cent will be a bit more of a challenge.
  6. My two Danzig coins. I hope to add some more types some day.
  7. One of my largest coppers: Honduras, 1862, 8 pesos (Provisional Coinage), 39 mm And some Swedish copper plate money: 4 Daler, 1756 (1930 g even after much corrosion from salt water)
  8. Got 15 very worn coppers for $15 at a local coin shop. Most look like Italian States around 1600s. This one has me stumped. It's 28 mm, 11.4 g, looks to be copper. Obverse has an unrecognizable portrait. Reverse has "PVBLIC COMMO DITAS" in some sort of wreath. It's very similar to this Filippo IV 3 Tornesi (33 mm) but a bit too small and the inscription has different line breaks. Several other coins from Naples & Sicily have similar inscriptions, but I haven't been able to find an exact match. It's about the size of a 1 Grano coin. Any suggestions? I know these older Italian States coins can have a lot of a varieties, but it always bugs me to have to give up and assume it's a version not listed in Krause. Thanks for any help and comments.
  9. Looks like I have only one photographed? I have no idea if something from my German States minors collection was issued under a Heinrich/Henrik. Henry VIII 2nd Groat 1526-44
  10. A few more if you will put up with me! Papal States 10 Soldi 1867 Pius IX Year XII Papal States 1 Lira Pius IX Year XIII 1869 Clockwise from top L: Gubbio 1680 Quattrino, Venice ND (1676-1684) Soldo, Gorizia 1799 2 Soldi, Milan 1777 1/2 Soldo Papal States (?) Pope Paul V Testone (Couldn't find an exact match for this one, but his Papacy was 1605-1621) As you can see, I love Italian states coins, especially when I can get them unidentified for cheap!
  11. Gorizia 1 Soldo 1764 H Venice 1623-24 1 Soldo Republic of Naples 1648 3 Tornesi Papal States Gubbio 1750 Quattrino Jubilee Year Sardinia 1/2 Soldo 1783 I could go on for a while--I bought a bunch of low-grade unidentified (mostly) Italian coppers a few years back.
  12. I have quite a few Italian states coppers, mostly in low grades. Here are some from Milan, mostly Filippo III, 1600s. And here are some nice big Kingdom of Naples coppers from around the Napoleonic Era.
  13. Got this recently as part of a mixed lot from a local coin shop. It was misidentified as a 1 jiao by the dealer, which I didn't realize until I had it at home. Apparently, the 2 jiao can go for significantly more than I paid for it, if authentic, but there are numerous fakes out there. If any of you are familiar with Republic of China coins, I have a couple questions: 1) Does it appear likely to be authentic? 2) If not a fake, approximately what grade might it be? My old Krause guide (1990s) doesn't seem to show the 2 jiao as much more expensive than the 1 jiao, but apparently the current market thinks differently. Since I'm terrible at estimating coin grades, I have no idea if it would be worth getting authenticated. Thanks for any help, comments, or advice!

  14. Some Spanish Colonials: Mexico 8 Reales 1796, Chopmarked Mexico Carlos IIII 8 Reales 1791, Chopmarked Bolivia 1774 1 Real (?) Chile 1812 2 Reales Guatemala 8 Reales Cob 1739, holed I have a soft spot for "problem" coins. Holed, chop marks, ex-jewelry etc. But there's a lot of interesting stuff out there.
  15. This is a very broad topic! Here are a couple: Spain, 2 Reales, Seville, 1737 (25 mm) It should be 27 mm, and I believe the edge was clipped long ago. Spain, 1497-1566, Cuenca, 1 Blanca Carlos III, Pretender, Spain, 2 Reales, 1711 Spain, Joseph Napoleon, 4 Reales, 1812 Spain, 1868, 2½ centimos, Isabel II edit: I had "2.5 centimos" in the file name, and the image uploader doesn't seem to like dots in filenames. Fixed?
