Another coin that was on my wantlist has been scratched off...

The style of this particular hyperpyron peaked my interest for a very long time, but these coins were always difficult to get in good condition.  While the figures are somewhat flat (typical with this coin), it has an almost complete legend, which is extremely difficult to get.  The wait definitely paid off...

Byzantine Empire: Andronicus II Palaeologus (1282-1295) AV Hyperpyron, Constantinople (Sear 2326)

The copper version of that particular hyperpyron was scratched off the list twice a while ago 🙂. They don't come up for sale that often and thus are more scarce than the gold:

Byzantine Empire: Andronicus II Palaeologus (1282-1295) Æ Trachy, Constantinople (Sear 2334; DOC V.563-66; LPC 40; PCPC 101)

That's a super nice and rare hyperpyron!  Congratulations!

My only Byzantine hyperpyron with the Virgin Orans on the obverse is the far more common one of Andronicus and II Michael IX (1303-1320).  From Roma E-Sale 53, lot 1037.

3.95 grams

That one is really nice with good details on the reverse.  Here is mine for that particular type:

My example!

I still need the AE type. Its rather scarce

An outstanding example with good details! Yours has the more abbreviated legend with both Christ and the emperor's face visible!
