harkonnen Posted December 3, 2023 · Member Posted December 3, 2023 Can you help me identify this coin. Thanks 2 Quote
sand Posted December 7, 2023 · Member Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) Hello @harkonnen. Welcome to Nvmis Forvms. The coin looks interesting. The inscription on the reverse seems neither Greek nor Latin. Perhaps the coin was minted in the Middle East or central Asia. Can you measure the diameter and weight of the coin? harkonnen Posted December 8, 2023 · Member Author Posted December 8, 2023 It sure is interesting. Diameter is 26.5mm. The reverse has the word Dirham on the bottom. Ill try to get the weight soon. Quote
DLTcoins Posted December 8, 2023 · Member Posted December 8, 2023 (edited) It's a modern fantasy, unfortunately. Edited December 8, 2023 by DLTcoins 2 1 Quote

It's a well-known fantasy type that has been around for many years, likely originating in Afghanistan or Pakistan. harkonnen Posted December 9, 2023 · Member Author Posted December 9, 2023 That is interesting @DLTcoins. I bought it recently from a dealer just to figure out what it is. Thanks for the link you shared. im not into ancient coins by any stretch but The only question I would have. If someone says fantasy, is that it? Without providing the why it is fantasy? Im just intrigued around this coin for no reason 🙂 Quote
DLTcoins Posted December 9, 2023 · Member Posted December 9, 2023 (edited) It clearly isn't ancient. The reverse copies Afghan types from the late 19th and early 20th centuries (which were still hammered). That said, there is no reasonable context to explain it. The onus of "why" falls on those who would assert authenticity. You're right. It's intriguing but so far, the consensus is 'nay'. Edited December 9, 2023 by DLTcoins 2 Quote
Ryro Posted December 9, 2023 · Supporter Posted December 9, 2023 This is clearly a poorly made modern fake. @DLTcoins has been very kind to provide you with not only the explanation that you, supposedly, inadvertently bought a modern fantasy coin, but even gave you resources to others of the type. You owe him a thanks and he certainly doesn't owe you an explanation. But if one is to believe your story, here it is: You were intrigued and got fooled. Your story is that you bought it from a dealer. Take it back for a refund if that's so. If he's legit, he knew the coin wasn't. 1 Quote
harkonnen Posted December 9, 2023 · Member Author Posted December 9, 2023 @Ryro not sure who appointed you as a lawyer for @DLTcoins but okay. I wanted to learn and understand more which I did. The dealer is legit but he told me he have no clue what that coin was and I bought it from him with that fact. thanks for the information @DLTcoinsand the discussion. It was very helpful for me.
