Harry G Posted May 19, 2023 · Member Share Posted May 19, 2023 Hi all! I've had this coin in my "miscellaneous" pile for a while now: I have a (very) limited knowledge of Parthian coins, but I think it's a decently scarce beardless drachm of Pakoros I from Ekbatana (78 - 120AD). Unfortunately, the coin has some very hard red deposits, which I have been unable to remove with my dental pick. Is this some form of horn silver? If so, would Sodium Thiosulphate help?
John Conduitt Posted May 19, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted May 19, 2023 It might be Cuprite (Copper Oxide), which I don't think will come off chemically. But the coin looks great with its red highlights.

JayAg47 Posted May 20, 2023 · Member Share Posted May 20, 2023 I usually remove deposits from my coins, but this looks oddly beautiful, leave it as it is!
Benefactor LONGINUS Posted May 20, 2023 · Benefactor Benefactor Share Posted May 20, 2023 Great color @Harry G — I wouldn’t attempt to clean it. I’ve always been fond of my red bull 😁
expat Posted May 20, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted May 20, 2023 Sometimes the partial red colouring can give a coin a bit of character Troas , Gergis. Circa 4th-3rd Century BC. AE12mm, 1.28 g. Hrefn Posted May 21, 2023 · Supporter Share Posted May 21, 2023 I agree with those members who would not further clean the coin. It is handsome, even striking, as is.
