Claudia Octavia (54-62 AD) Perinthus, Thrace, AE27 - wife of Nero Obverse: ΟΚΤΑΟΥΙΑ ΣΕΒΑΣΤH Diademed and draped bust to right.

Reverse: ΗΡΑ ΠΕΡΙΝΘΙΩΝ Statue of Hera of Samos to left, holding filleted patera. Bronze, diameter 27 x 25,5 mm, weight 9,2 g.

Reference: RPC 1755, Grade: F, purchased from GNDM Feb 2023

Being forced to marry Nero is crummy enough. But after being divorced by Nero so that he could marry Poppaea, due to his knocking his mistress up, Claudia O was forced into exile on the very same island that Augustus had exiled his daughter Julia the elder and that Julia Livilla and Agrippina the elder would spend their final days.

Well, this would not stand! The Roman people loved her and started a grass roots campaign and through massive riots demanded her recall. Tearing down statues of Poppaea and carying Claudia's through the streets.

It's nice to be liked... unless being liked just pisses off the Emperor and he has your veins cut in an attempt to simulate suicide, but when that took longer than expected, she was brought into a room full of hot steam to suffocate.

The 22 year old empress's head was then severed and delivered to Poppaea:

If anyone has coins of hers or any other rare empress please share em!

Great looking new coin, @Ryro! And entertaining write-up, as always! I have two coins of this empress. Neither are FDC, if you get my drift.

1453243729_NeroandClaudiaOctaviaAlexandria.jpg.c8b0341bd63620f49fc3932abdf3e2dc.jpg
Nero and Claudia Octavia.
Roman provincial billon tetradrachm, 11.1 g, 25.0 mm.
Egypt, Alexandria, AD 56-57.
Obv: ΝΕΡ ΚΛΑΥ ΚΑΙΣ ΣΕΒ ΓΕΡ ΑΥΤΟ, laureate head of Nero, right.
Rev: ΟΚΤΑΟΥΙΑ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΥ, bare-headed and draped bust of Octavia, right; L Γ before.
Refs: RPC 5202; BMC 119; SGI 657; Cologne 122; Milne 133; Emmett 127.

This thing is barely identifiable, but I'm confident it's RPC I, 1005 because it's an obverse die match to the illustrated coin.

Thanks! Frankly, despite the reverse, with that sexy portrait I really thought I was chasing a ghost with this coin

CANNOT wait to hold her in my bed... hands. Hold her in my hands!

Lovely Plotina!

All his women are rare AF. The only one I'm missing is the niece.
