Sulla80 Posted November 24, 2022 · Supporter Posted November 24, 2022 (edited) I enjoy Thanksgiving for the look back with gratitude at the year with all the usual highs and lows. In this forum we can be grateful for interests, history, ideas and coins shared. An new development this year, the "Social Media Rebellion of 2022" and a burst of entrepreneurial innovation created this forum! Marcius Porcius Cato describes a Spring ritual of gratitude to Jupiter before the planting of millet, panic grass, garlic, and lentils. "CXXXII. The offering is to be made in this way: Offer to Jupiter Dapalis a cup of wine of any size you wish, observing the day as a holiday for the oxen, the teamsters, and those who make the offering. In making the offering use this formula: “Jupiter Dapalis, inasmuch as it is fitting that a cup of wine be offered thee, in my house and in the midst of my people, for thy sacred feast; and to that end, be thou honored by the offering of this food.” -Cato the Elder, On Agriculture, CXXXII The Romans also celebrated the new vintage with Meditrinalia on October 11th. "In the month of October, the Meditrinaliae ‘Festival of Meditrina’ was named from mederi ‘to be healed,’ because Flaccus the special priest of Mars used to say that on this day it was the practice to pour an offering of new and old wine to the god, and to taste of the same, for the purpose of being healed; which many are accustomed to do even now, when they say: Wine new and old I drink, of illness new and old I’m cured." -Varro, On the Latin Language My Top 10 for 2022 are posted here for your entertainment: https://www.sullacoins.com/post/top-10-for-2022 Best Wishes for a Happy Thanksgiving! zadie Posted November 24, 2022 · Member Posted November 24, 2022 My clear favourite is #7. Partly because I'm stuck in Lepidus purgatory when it comes to his moneyer issues. None of them in my collection! Yours is absolutely wonderful 3 Quote
Qcumbor Posted November 24, 2022 · Supporter Posted November 24, 2022 Great selection. 4, 7 and 5 for me please 🙂 Q 3 Quote

Yours is absolutely wonderful Here's my favorite Lepidus with Mark Antony - a denarius from the short period just before the second triumvirate formed - Anthony and Lepidus decide they need each other, Octavian join the opportunistic trio shortly after. https://www.sullacoins.com/post/untitled 11 4 Quote

Sulla80 Posted November 25, 2022 · Supporter Author Posted November 25, 2022 Thanks All - always fun to see who likes which coins and which coin gets the "People's Choice" award - so far Anthony and Octavia are doing well with Claudius coming close behind. 1 Quote
Ancient Aussie Posted November 25, 2022 · Supporter Posted November 25, 2022 All great coins Sulla, but I love your Claudius,, probably the most realistic portrait of him out of all his coinage. Congrats. 3 1 Quote
singig Posted November 26, 2022 · Member Posted November 26, 2022 Very interesting website, I looked at all the coins from the gallery. My preferred coin from your Top10 is the cistophoric tetradrachm of Claudius. Congratulations ! 2 1 Quote
Parthicus Posted November 26, 2022 · Member Posted November 26, 2022 A very nice group of coins, hard to choose between the Claudius and the Marc Antony/Octavia, but if pressed I'd give the edge to the Marc Antony/Octavia just because of the history behind it. 1 Quote
Curtisimo Posted November 26, 2022 · Supporter Posted November 26, 2022 Your top 4 are all fantastic @Sulla80but the Claudius is a stand out. What a fantastic portrait on such an historic type. 1 1 Quote
Roman Collector Posted November 26, 2022 · Patron Posted November 26, 2022 All fantastic coins, @Sulla80! My favorites, though, are the Antony and Octavia cistophorus, the currus elephantorum denarius of C. Caecilius Metellus Caprarius, and the ex-Dattari Alexandrian tet of Gallienus. 1 Quote
Nerosmyfavorite68 Posted November 26, 2022 · Member Posted November 26, 2022 There's some tough choices there. As much as I'd like to vote for the wonderful Claudius, I'll have to vote for the Marc Antony. 1 Quote
John Conduitt Posted November 26, 2022 · Supporter Posted November 26, 2022 I will vote for the Claudius. 1 Quote
