The Inscription reads: ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΖΟΥ, Reverse: Athena standing right, raising her hand and holding a spear and a shield, two monograms in the fields. However, most Hindus associate it with the triumphant return of Prince Rama, Sita, and his brother Laxmana to Ayodhya after they defeat Ravana, the legendary demon King of Lanka, after a 14 year exile. It is one of the most popular epics in India and South East Asia, next to the Mahabharata. Here is a coin that depicts the epic. Alas, the other coins that I have need to be photographed... Thanjavur Nayakas: Raghunatha Nayaka (1614-1640) Æ Kasu (MCSI-743; Ganesh-489) Obv: Standing Rama, Sita & Laxmana Rev: Devanagari legend श्री रघु / नाथा (Sri Raghu / natha) in two lines And to add to the Indo-Scythian coins, here is a new one I acquired a few weeks ago: Indo-Scythian: Azes II (ca. 35-12 BCE) AE Pentachalkon (Mitchiner 2298) Obv: Elephant walking r., tamgha above; Greek legend around.
