Great work, @Roman Collector. Nice to see the coins comparison. I don't have coins with Spes. My closest "holding something" in the reverse design is this Venus holding Victory. π Faustina Junior (Augusta, 147-175) Sestertius Obv: Draped bust r. Rev: Venus seated l., holding Victory and sceptre. 31mm, 23.36g, 6h RIC III 1686 (Aurelius).

Nice, @Paddy54. Did you write articles on certain types of coin errors (such as off-center, double strucks), or the minting process in general? I collect error coins (mostly state quarter errors) in addition to ancients. I am not a CONECA member though.

I only have one Diva Faustina Junior. Looks like it belongs to the later time period, with its "PIA" on the obverse legend.

Nice addition, @Ryro. There are a number of Syracuse bronze designs on my want list, such as man-headed bull and octopus. Hope to slowly pick them up one by one. Forgot to refresh my computer before submitting... Here is a similar coin as @Curtis JJ. NEXT: Republican coin of "the other" to a famous historical figure (or "an other")(e.g., "the other Caesar," the other Brutus, the other Cassius, the other Pompey, the other....)

This sestertius has IVNO as the reverse legend. π Faustina Junior AE Sestertius. Rome Mint. 30mm, 20.90g. Obv: Draped bust right, with circlet. FAVSTINA AVGVSTA. Rev: Juno left, holding patera & scepter. Peacock at feet. IV[NO] RIC III 1645 Next: Faustina Junior sestertius.

Here is a recent addition to my Faustina Junior coins. Still in the mail from UK (London Coins). Nothing very special about this one. Just like the light-color patina, and I don't have a sestertius version with this hairstyle (Beckmann Type 10 - late design). π Faustina Junior (Augusta, 147-175). Γ Sestertius (31mm, 23.36g, 6h). Obv: Draped bust r. Rev: Venus seated l., holding Victory and sceptre. RIC III 1686 (Aurelius).

Snakes on Ancient Coins Article in CoinWeek
happy_collector replied to Roman Collector's topic in General
An interesting read, @Roman Collector. Thanks! I have a similar Hadrian Alexandrian tetradrachm as in the article. I like the theme of Roman and Egyptian serpents. Here are my other serpent-theme coins. π -
Another enjoyable read. Thanks, @Roman Collector. Great to be Friday and weekend again. π I think my two coins are of similar type 7.

Nice stater, @Ryro. I like the design, but I'm still on a lookout for a good example. Instead, I picked up this one with a Hercules in the reverse design at Naville. I think it may be a rare variety, since I don't see a lot of comparable examples, especially with a shield and spear. Pisidia, Selge Stater circa 350-325 BC. 26.00 mm., 10.34 g. Obv: Two wrestlers grappling, below, BA. Rev: Hercules standing r., holding club over head and lion's skin; in r. field, spear head and below, shield. SNG France1935.

Finally Arrived today AV Lifetime Stater of Alexander the Great

A beautiful coin with very nice details. Congrats. π -
Nice elephant quadriga, Donna. I like coin's large size and chunky feeling. Looks like the elephants are working hard. Probably a very heavy chariot. π Yes, those hippocamp bigas are hard to come by, and quite expensive. I recalled seeing a good quality example maybe 2-3 weeks ago in vcoins at over $2,000. It doesn't show in my search anymore... I guess it is sold. Well, such price range is out of my denarius budget anyway, so maybe I'll pursue a bronze example instead. However, even the bronze version may not come cheap these days. I saw a Phoenician hippocamp quadriga bronze at Numismatik Naumann this morning, but hammer price is quite high. As for the Ceres on a snake biga RR coin, I think there are a number of examples showing up these days. Unless you are really going after a high quality example, or the one variety that the snakes are not curled, I believe it won't take you too long to hammer one.

Great RR additions, Donna. I like Roman coins with galleries, and your #74 with three-quarters perspective is such a beauty. Thanks for sharing. I'm adding this coin type onto my lookout list. π I'm slowly building up my biga team. Here are my lion, centaur, cupid and snake members. π
