Faustina Friday β Roman Collectorβs Top 10 of 2023
happy_collector replied to Roman Collector's topic in Faustina Friday
Thanks for sharing your top 10, RC. My favorites are your #1, 2 and 3. Very interesting coins with DIVAE inscriptions. I guess details makes the whole difference in the coin story. I am on a lookout for a left-facing bust of Faustina Junior coin to pair up with my Faustina Senior, so it is great to see an extremely rare example (your #2). Your rare #3 Faustina Senior lifetime denarius is also wonderful. π- 8 replies

Another nice list of coins, @ambr0zie. My favorites are your #1, 2 and 10. The obverse design of your Caria drachm is very special. I haven't seen another example before. Cupid biga is also one of my all-time favorite ancient coin designs. The archaic element of your Corinthian drachm is very nice. Thanks for sharing! π

DonnaML's Top 12 French Coins and Medals for 2023
happy_collector replied to DonnaML's topic in 2023 Top Coins of The Year
Wonderful medals, Donna. The Art Deco Nike medal has such an interesting design. However, I like the Empress Marie-Louise medals the best. I have read about the history on her, and it is great to see medals dedicated to the Empress. Thanks for sharing! π -
DonnaML's Top 11 British Coins and Medals for 2023
happy_collector replied to DonnaML's topic in 2023 Top Coins of The Year
Wonderful coin and medal additions, Donna. Thanks for sharing! Your Queen Anne medal has such an interesting reverse design. I am adding this type to my wish list. π It is good to see your Victoria official Coronation Medal, plus your additional notes. It is one of my favorite designs. I recalled reading that not everybody liked the design, but somehow I do. It is great to hold and feel the really high relief medal. I also like that these medals were actually distributed during the queen's coronation date. Makes it more special by "holding history in my hands". π -

I recently picked up two common Fausta coins to pair up with the one I had (eyes looking upward). The first one has Fausta's eyes looking forward. The one below has a very different hairstyle, similar to the type seen on Helena coins. π Fausta AE Follis. 324-326 A.D. Obv: Draped bust of Fausta right "FLAV MAX FAVSTA AVG" Rev: Spes standing left, holding two children "SPES REIPVBLICA", ".DSIS." in exergue 2.74g, 19mm RIC 205 Aegean Numismatics, Nov 2023. Fausta AE Follis. Thessalonica 326-328 A.D. Obv: diademed bust right. FLAV MAX FAVSTA AVG; Rev: SPES REI PVBLICAE; In ex: SMTSB; Fausta, stg.l., holding two infants in her arms 19mm, 3.96 gram RIC 162 Gert Boersema Ancient Coins, Nov 2023.
