Thank you, I am always happy to share the small bit of knowledge I have 😁 And since today i got my grade papers and was released into summer break, I thought I'd buy myself a coin in celebration. It happens to fit right in, so ill share it here 😅 A coin minted in Saxony by a Saxonian monarch, bought by a native Saxonian and currently housed in Saxony!

Nice example of the "Dreibrüdertaler"-type! Since I am from Saxony myself, I know a bit about saxon coins and its cool seeing the coins of all the other members! This example you sold isn't really common, in fact, it's the rarest of the Dreibrüdertalers, showing the three brothers in equal height on the obverse. The type was only minted in 1592, the dies were changed the same year to show the brother in the middle higher than the others (I hope this makes sense 😂). Its a great type, one of my favourites from Saxony!

I find it hard to do group pictures with my phone, so theres not a lot I can offer 😅 This is the only one I have of my whole collection, started at 8 years old and continued until now, 7 years later. The german coins are from my earlier collecting times. For the storage, I have 7 red velvet trays another collector kindly gifted me. They are much better than the previous (blue) one I had. They are also quite decent for pictures!

Great work, the Aoloi stater in particular! For the last roman, I'd guess Nerva because of the very pronounced nose 😁

I'm quite late to the party, but I have a bit to share too. I am lucky enough to live near a lake with a forest around it, which is particularly nice when temperatures are getting close to 40°C. In the Winter it is quite nice as well: And since we are speaking about nature, ill share a few pics of my favourite place on earth. Its been 8 years since I first went on holiday to this Austrian valley, and I've come back every year since. I think its easy to understand why: This spot is my favourite place, I can sit the for hours!

Oh, you are THAT Ken Dorney?! I'm stunned I didn't realize earlier 😂 And wow, those coins are awesome!! Apart from all the well known "rarities" like Galbe and the COL NEM dupondius, for me the Gallienus at 5:16 sticks out, that reverse looks remarkably clear! That must have been quite a fortune at double the market price (although I assume it was a lot cheaper back when you bought it?)

I am also very sorry to hear that, especially since you've been together for so long! I lost Teddy, my companion of 15 years last summer, he had been with me my entire life so it was hard to let him go 😔 But I have a new companion, Leo, now and times have gotten a lot better with him! I hope you can also get over it, I (and Leo) wish you the best!

I am personally very fascinated about Gallienus, both as a ruler, but also as an emperor on coinage. My first and (to this date) only coin of him came from another member roughly 6000km away from me. The shipping costs were way bigger than the value of the coins, so he added "a few" (about 10) huge coin trays! Ive just taken the pictures, you can see very well where the silvering is, but its of course not as yellow in person: What I paricularly like about this coin is the amazing artistry on the bust, which is also very high relief in person. The images dont do justice!

So far, ive just been buying coins that came my way, because my buying options are limited to coin shops and markets, so i didnt really have much of a choice. In more recent times though, ive completely changed focus - my collection focus, and the way I buy coins. My new goal is to target certain types in a higher range and buy types ive been looking for instead of random coins that come my way. Im focussing on studying for now and will most likely not buy any new coins for a long time, I wont be able to because a lot of money goes to the Ukrainian refugees we are taking into our home atm. Hopefully this will help me to think my purchases through a bit more, though its difficult to not buy anything. Curious on other members answers!

I'm a really big fan of the uniform he's wearing. Its overall just so elegant, but simple! Also quite crazy to think that he was only 18 when the war started! And yours only 19.

It's so cool to read these interesting stories. I have one to tell too: I was around 7 years old, when we moved out of our old house in a rural village, to a house in the suburbs in the city. While going through the old stuff to sort out, I thought it might be a good idea to check all the old wallets - we had a lot of them! One of them seemes to have belonged to my great grandfather, who had died decades earlier. When I opened it, I was greeted with a lot of german empire coins, the oldest from 1898 up to 1945. I got to catalouging them and found some quite nice ones in there! Over the following years, I bought a few german coins along the way, but had a bigger interest in studying ancient history than that of the german empire - and you couldn't buy coins from that time, right? (At that point I had completely forgotten about the Claudius II Ant I had bought years back in Trier - my parents had confiscated it because I listened to a rock title). Well, last year I opened eBay, looking up "ancient coins" and was stunned to see that some were only 10€. Luckily I waited with buying my first one until I got a good quality coin from a local dealer, not a crappy LRB from ebay! It was hard to obtain one, since my parents are in a cult that forbids "materialistic" hobbys like coin collecting, but that makes me even more proud of the collection I've managed to build up over the last few months! Thats my great grandfather, whom I have to thank for my numismatic interest: My first "real" purchase: Unfortunately, due Covid I havent had the opportunity to speak with experts I my area a lot, something I definately want to improve on! But talking with experienced collectors online and just asking questions has been a huge help.

Quite a lot of interesting responses! The stereotypical teen uses a lot of social media and im no exception 😂 Most of my free time goes to the study and discussion of numismatics and history though. Here are my personal experiences: Reddit: A nice place for looking at other members coins, but quite flooded with "Found this in my granddads attic, is it real?"- posts, so im not using it a lot anymore. Helped me a lot at the start though! Instagram: I use it for posting a little "gallery" of all my coins and following experienced collectors, but its terrible for discussion usually Discord: Great place for discussing with more experienced collectors, and sometimes even making friends. Chatting with other members has taught me a lot! CT: Didn't ever get in due to the horrendous gatekeeping and banning of new accounts, but sometimes I like to look up a topic that interests me and stick "Cointalk" at the end, to see some nice threads about these topics. NumisForums: it has everything I liked about cointalk, with many of the major issues gone (hopefully at least). Not that many threads and long writeups yet, but an amazing forum! Thats about it, but let's not forget about the websites of some of the people here, which are also really interesting, especially the pages of @dougsmit, @TIF and @Kaleun96!
