Probably not me! I think I've been outbid more often than won. In fact, come to think of it, I've only won one coin from that seller. It's a special one though - I've yet to post it here but probably will within the next couple weeks in the Roman coin reverses thread.
He is a popular seller. He has a lot of good ancients with interesting reverses. His stuff goes for reasonably healthy prices though. I try but always lose with snipe bids, max bids, as well as others.

Yes you're correct, sorry to have outbid you but thanks! 😄
It's okay I liked it but wasn't on my radar 100%. Still looking for a nice denarius of him

MARCUS AURELIUS AE sestertius. Rome mint, 173 AD. M ANTONINVS AVG TR P XXVII, laureate bust right. Reverse - GERMANICO AVG IMP VI COS III, Trophy with shields at base, Germania, as mourning female captive, seated left; Captive german male stands, bound, to right, SC in exergue. RCV 4974, RIC 1058. Very scarce
According to Sear, this coin type is a revival of a type issued by Domitian over 9 decades before.
I really love the issues from the marcomannic wars and it's a cool nod to the gladiator movie. 😄Oh wow I bid on this one. Taters Ancients on eBay right. It's a nice coin congrats!

Perhaps it's a Chalkon from Thessaly. A lot of Greek bronzes have a similar weight and diameter. It's a cool piece

Got an example??
I posted my Caligula vesta a while back but there was this beautiful Capricorn reverse I saw on vcoins for $60 it had to be at least a vf. I had it on my watchlist until it sold around 3 months ago. I don't have too many provincials. They do come on vcoins but unfortunately not too often. Here is my Vesta example (the only readily avaliable Caligula imperial issue with his portrait). Eventually I'll get a provincial Caligula.

That's a nice portrait of Caligula. Provincial Caligulas are the way to go. they don't come on the market often, but they usually are in pretty nice shape for great prices.

Queen Elizabeth I Groat 1560-1561. Never really liked collecting English hammered coins mainly because they are quite expensive, often damaged or have worn away portraits. But they are quite special when they are in decent shape and have full portraits. Idk if I should bother sending it off to grade because of the scratches.

Tyche ?? and on the right is probably a legend in two lines. I can see some readable letters, but can't read enough.
Huhh well that narrows it down to 59 results on wildwinds but can't seem to find an exact match. Could be Commodus perhaps, they do share a resemblance. Tricky but im not giving up!

Appears to have a seated Zeus left, with Greek text behind and below the throne. Evidently a bearded, laureate bust right.
Based on that, there are a wealth of possibilities. I wonder if its worth the effort, as this would be a hard sell in this condition.
eh I'm not going to sell it but it's kind of fun doing the research. It's the journey lol. I still believe it is a Marcus Aurelius from Syria. In this condition though even with a full ID its worth a dollar or two.

It's about 18 mm the same size as a US dime. I am unsure of the weight because I do not have a scale unfortunately 😞

Where is it for sale?
I would say it’s a fake.
It’s possible that it’s a bronze core (so once either plated or struck in gold foil). Those were either contemporary counterfeits or made like that by the official mints.
But I don’t know. The horse is too well struck, centred and preserved, as is the corn beneath whatever that is on top. I’m not even sure the style is right. Even the gold ones don’t look that good. Plus the coin is pretty flat when they are usually more dish shaped. A gold one looking like that would cost £5k.I agree. eBay. The seller has ancients but this is the only one he has that looks fishy. His ebay name:mresantiques I didn't think it was real either but it's a surprise because his other stuff looks good.

Update: The seller told me the coin guy that identified it used the book 1978 Coins of England and narrowed it down to that tribe
But I believe it's a Vandals coin too

Interesting but I hope it's from the Vandals at least because I already have a lot of Byzantine coins. If it isn't I might ask for a return it. Well it was a good risk I think.

Yes the suspicious thing is that it looks good and the photos are not good. I don't think you can buy any rouble without seeing it in hand or getting it from a reputable dealer or TPG. But this type is not so rare or expensive.
Thank you! I didn't end up buying it. I went with a safter option and it was cheaper.

How big and heavy is it?
It won't be in RIC. Van Arsdell, Rudd (ABC) or Spink, perhaps. If it is British Celtic, it's more likely to be from the Catuvellauni/Trinovantes, someone like Cunobelin or Tasciovanus, but what looks like a Celtic legend doesn't really fit. It might be part of the mint, Camulodunon (CAMV). The obverse doesn't make much sense to me, with two curved borders and nothing else I can make out. It's 0.8 grams and smaller than a US Penny according to the eBay listing

I entered on cointalk. I love the Claudius. It is so charming, and I like the reverse.
