  1. Otho and Domitian. Puts me to seven of the Twelve Caesars, with an offer pending on a Titus. This is my second time doing the 12C. Julius Caesar- need Augustus- have Tiberius- have Caligula- need Claudius-have Nero- have Galba- need Otho- have Vitellius- need Vespasian- have Titus- pending counteroffer Domitian- have
  2. I was pleased to unexpectedly win this one in the S-B auction. Sorta kicking around the idea of doing the Twelve Caesars again; this time as a subset within my existing collection. This is my first NGC ancient with the star ★ designation. https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots/view/3-13WVPS/claudius-ad-41-54-ae-sestertius-2963-gms-rome-mint-ad-42-43-ngc-vf-strike-55-surface-45-light-smoothing
  3. Alas, no, though there is such a thing. I got a Sasanian coin in one. I tried to get my latest Ancients submission put in those prongless “Air View” NGC holders, but the folks at their 2023 FUN show table said that’s at NGC’s discretion and not a customer-choice option. So beastly white prongs I shall get. But when submitting, I now always go for the Photovision images, which are well worth the modest added expense, and prongless, as you can see. This Nero was bought already slabbed, so I had to send it in for Photovision and reholdering. A minor hassle, but worth it.
  4. No prongs! No longer overexposed! Before After
  5. Octavian as Augustus, 27 BC – 14 AD Cistophoric tetradrachm Ephesus circa 24-20 BC, AR 26.00 mm., 11.68 g. Bare head r. Rev. Capricorn r., head reverted, carrying cornucopia on its back; all within laurel wreath. C 16. RIC 477. RPC 2213.
  6. I literally LOL-ed @ that. I too have often wondered what it would be like to do something like this. I’d likely end up creating something thin and medieval in appearance. If I had any engraving skill at all, which I do not.
  7. I’m proud to see “Coin Uno” games sprouting up everywhere on various forums, as it was I who created the first one back on Collectors Universe in the early 2000s.
  8. Not counting a few low-end Widow’s Mites, this Jewish War prutah is my first Judaean coin. (I did have a Vespasian Judaea Capta denarius once, but we won’t count the coins of the oppressor, right?) 😉 I bought it at the January 2023 FUN show in Orlando, from Tom Wood, a dealer with whom I struck up a new friendship. He let me have it for $55. I liked the patina on it. Here’s one of the other trays. I was considering a nicely patinated Judaea Capta bronze as well (not seen here), but somebody else ended up buying that one. Tom also carries a smattering of American Colonial coins. I picked up this New Jersey copper from him on my last day at the show. He let me have it for $390. If any of you are interested in my long and detailed FUN show report which includes lots of pictures and commentary posted live as I strolled around the bourse floor, that is on CoinTalk: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lordm-fun-show-report-orlando-2023.402155/ (It includes my other purchases, as well as photos of some amazing coins I could never hope to own.) Happy (slightly-belated) New Year! ~RWS/“LM”
  9. Congrats- I still do not own one, and never have.
  10. I need to measure it next time I’m in my safe deposit stuff. As I recall, it’s approximately US quarter-sized?
  11. Even if it turns out to be fake (or maybe an older fake, better yet), it’s a winning buy at 1€, no matter what! It’s quite a handsome trinket, even if that’s all it is. And if it’s more than just that, it’s a big win! Nice purchase! I never let a hole bother me, in the past… 😉
  12. The poll here offered an all-or-none option, so I had to go with “all”. LOL (But seriously- I couldn’t pick too many favorites here- it is just too tough.)
  13. Thought it was pretty. My first of this type.
  14. @Kazuma78 Boy howdy, I miss that 1847 proof cent. It is (or was) the finest known certified example, as you know. Probably still is?
  15. The most expensive coin I have owned in 46 years of collecting. So it was exciting to unbox.
  16. Here’s a penny of Edward the Confessor I scooped up not long ago.
  17. I’m sorry that one went AWOL, Paddy. But even before it was stolen from the mail, it caught bronze disease and was practically ruined anyway. If I had known that was your first ancient, I’d have sent you something else ancient as the replacement. But instead you got a slabbed US piece from my personal collection. I do hope you get another ancient! This one was just one of those cursed coins, apparently.
