We interupt this thread for an important message from our sponcers....
  2. Reverse Clash with Flying Eagle Cent. The reverse of the quarter has parts of the Flying Eagle Cent design showing above and below the left (facing) wing, above the right wing and within the shield. Attribution is easiest on high-grade coins This particular variety is highly sought after, a mule clashed reverse with an FEC . An R- 6 variety with abour <40 known to exist. I love seated coinage, so many different varieties...for a picker like myself. It takes a good eye, and propper lighting to catch the clash. However behinde the head and neck of the eagle you'll see some little spikes like clashes. I posted a marked outline so you'll be able to see the clashed mapped out. I grade this vf 15/20 as the reverse is better condition. A < $60. Purchase now valued in the $450/475.usd range. I cannot express the joy I had when after an hour studying its reverse in detail, and doing comparisons to positive ID the variety. This is why I'm a picker..."not nose".... but coin variieties. One bitten by the pickin bug...you'll never look at a coin the same way...as you'll train your eye,and brain to see whats is exactly in front of you...and bingo! you'll be hooked..!
  3. Craig Your two space medals are relic medals..as they were a part of a space ship or rocket that flew in space. Thus they have material in them that makes them fall into this category. Very cool as well very envy of them. I havent seen these before any place. cool specimens linked to history. On another space tid bit...did you see where they found a form of mite living on the space station windows? ...not on the inside.... on the outer window glass.

  5. Yes correct! Another ship I love to visit. Years ago I go visit an old work buddy who moved to Fort Lauderdale. They had Fleet week way before other cities for the military. Over 4 million people on the beach.... Watching...everything that floated or flew was there for the 2 day show. I recall landing at Ft Lauderdale and seeing both the Canadian snow birds, the Blue Angels...but really flipped me out ....was a Candy Apple Red Russian Mig on the tarmac. Anyway it was quite a show they had an old bomber drop water melons on targets. About 40 minutes to an hour they wash up on the beach. They drop a seal team off shore full gear. 8 team members 4 would stay out and tread water...the other 4 swam ashore to recon the beach...for the choppers to come in and lay down fire...blanks of course but very cool. Then in about a little under 2 hours a chopper come in drop a line and 4 seals would hold on for a water pick up...and held on flying down the beach front for the crowd. We now have fleet week here in Baltimore. So crowed but very cool... tall ships from other countries... at which I pick out a few crew and give them a Washington dollar coin. Then have the ship stamp dollar notes which I would include in a tip for a resturant server. It was funny that some believe that the dollar coin were gold....glad I wasn't around when they discovered that they weren't.
  6. The reference in the photos is a catalog that gives in details all medals made for both iron clad ships. As you'll see the one in the write up did have a piecebof medal from the ship. The medal that I did own at one time is also listed in this catalog . Hinde sight..wish I never sold. But there is one at present on ebay in silver @ $ 10,000. As they are very rare. Not an relic medal but struck durring the civil war.in copper, brass, and silver.
  7. Thanks for posting these images. What's funny is that years ago I worked for Dietz & Watson out of Baltimore but had many trips up I 95 to Philly. We also have a nephew and his wife who live in S Philly. While at D&W I was put in charge of a special event a concert over across the river in Camden NJ. It was a concert that a lot of military were given tickets for the show. I ran a special part of the event for select military who were chosen by their comand or fellow miltary members to enjoy a day of fun and music. Of course we fed as well soft drinks 3 different kegs of beer as well a nice selection of wines too. This was right on the water as my memory serves me up river a retired battle ship which I cannot recall its hull number,or name. Across the river yep The Olympia at its mooring...I know I took images most probably on my old company phone. I always thought that I like to drive up and see the ship . As here in Baltimore we have a light ship, a WW ll sub, the CG Tanney which was at Pearl durring the attack by Japan. Baltimore also has the John Brown liberty ship. And it does two to 3 times a year take a bay cruise. Which there's food dancing and all members in the time peroid dress as well in character for said time peroid. The music is swing of the 40's and I highly recommend that if your in town at a time one of these trips are going to sail grab yourself a fun time ticket.
  8. Thanks Donna for your post,as I should of known they were relic not artifact as again raised Irish Catholic and seeing relic medal. That were made of an actual body part ,ie bone or hair, or a thread off a saints robe. And if my memory serves me most alters had relics in them as to the saint the church was named after.
  9. Wow thats cool.... I guess he thought that they sell....but I also guess that injustices from the past do set deep within the ones they are leveled at. But again thoughout history the leading nation's imperialism of the big 3 Britain, Spain, France made huge differences in all their conquest. And not to get political but I can totally understand. The sickness brought to the SA jungles, to Hawaii islands, just two off the top of my head that caused much pain and suffering...that would of never occurred had the White man greed didn't superseded their christian faith beliefs. As a white male, raised as an Irish Catholic I have voiced these concerns to any priest, minster, etc...that would hear my argument. I have always taken the view of the truth in history...not the spoon fed BS that came from text books written by authors who either were so stupid to find the truth...or placed money over truth by candy coating history to a one way view. I was very fortunate in college who taught history by a right ,left, and middle road approach. Professor Duffy who also taught at the USNA gave you a view that you could make up your own mind as to the real truth....but based all his lectures on true facts..not to persuade your view but to make one think. Which as a student who loved history, and geography very much....and always sought out not just one view or answer to my questions as to the truth.
  10. Neat story how did you become the owner of so many? Or was it a purchase of a lot that you obtained so many? Whats cool about the 3 I posted is that all 3 ships are still afloat and no more than 100 +/- miles apart. 2 in Baltimore and 1 in Philadelphia.

Yes thats the image of the two who got arrested for profanity....what was so funny the head DA was in the audience and cut the two loose as in the morning. As their profanities were not addressed to anyone but part of the show... Besides how can you charge them when you were apart of the audience?lol
  14. It looks like the die markers are correct...it is possible that it was another medal or platchet...From your image this is what I am seeing...in hand it may look different. Now if its not on CN and sandwiched it lessens the chance..however the US mint strikes for other countries...that said it could be a blank from another country as its happen before...now weight the coin and give me a weight. That way it may be traceable. ...now I agree at first I believed it to be a grease strike through...or die deteration. But looking at the link I gave you its very possible that it may have been a ddo.
  15. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baltimore_gold_hoard This is a good read about treasures found in the 1930's Baltimore Maryland. A unbelievable account of 2 boys being boys.... im sure you'll love the story.
  16. Getting married? Need a cake? How about a brie wedding cake?
  17. How about a cheese dip that is easy and yummy. Now its your call as one can use most any semi hard or hard cheese. I like a slightly spicy cheese. Dietz & Watson makesca sweet peperdew cheese that I like...this state side can be purchased in most grocers. Buy it from the service deli in a big hunk..as you're going to cube the cheese for melting. Next you'll need a crock pot. Cut the cheese into cubes...place in crock pot along with two pkgs of cream cheese. Now turn on low to med heat...walk away..every few minuites...walk in and stir the pot until all are melted together. Now if one likes crab dip...just add crab meat to the mix....and keep the spread in a serving crock pot. This goes great on a french baggett....or other favorite snacks for dipping. You can add shrimp, chicken meat, if one like buffalo chicken....buy cheese with buffalo taste in the cheese, and add 1 can of white cooked chicken meat. Enjoy
  18. Now growing up on the Atlantic seaboard I love fish! Have you ever poached a nice white meat fish in Olive Oil? Halibut is a favorite fish to use...however it can get pricy....so any nice thicker white meat fish. Again its a easy prep...and wonderful dinner. Take a pyrex dish 9×11 or there abouts slice a lemon in to 1/8 " thick slices the whole lemon. Now layer in the glass dish a single layer of the lemon slices. Now before you do that as I forgot...take the fish out for 10 to 15 minuites. Grind course black pepper over the fish pices...settin out at room temperature allows the fish pours to open...and seasoning to go into flavour the fish. Now take the fish lay the pierces over the layer of lemon slices, next on the top of the fish lay remaing lemon slices on the fish. A couple sprigs of fresh parsley chop and spread it over the lemons on top the fish. Next a few cappers like a tea spoon full. Now you take extra virgin olive oil and cover the fish. Bake in a low oven @ between 275-300 f now cooking time will vary each oven will be different. The fish is done when the meat is opaque, white,flaky.... Now remove the fish and allow to rest on a plater with paper towels. Now guess what you do with the oil ??? You take a #2 coffee filter and filter the oil. As it will have a nice flavor...and you use it to dress the fish,as well on the potatoes and green beans....two veggies that pairs well with the fish. The remaining oil you can refrigerate for use on salads, or other veggies...later on...just allow it to sit at room temp until it warms up. So little waste of the oil as it can be used once filtered ...shelf life about 2 weeks refrigerated. The cooking time at the temps will be around 40 minuites to an hour depending on the thickness and size of the fish. Again enjoy folks.... any questions about please ask...and I'll try and explain or answer your concerns.
  19. Ok meal time...great for the grill.... Stuffed flank steak....with Blue cheese, garlic, and butter. This can be prepared several ways it can be rolled cut into pin wheels and cooked, it can be roasted as a whole and cut as a roast. Its simple...1 flank steak to feed your family....pounded out to make the meat a little thiner and this also helps break down muscle in the meat to tenderize. Mix to taste enough crumbled blue, garlic, and butter....many never realize why a restaurant steak taste so different....well 1 its cooked in butter 2 they spray water on the meat to help tenderize the meat. So we have our flank steak layed out, spread the mix of butter, garlic, and blue on the top of the steak. Next roll the meat up so the mixture is on the inside. Another reason your pound out the meat ...as its easier to roll up. Tie the meat with butchers twine...now here is where one needs to decide to roast as a whole,or cut pin wheel like steaks. You need to cook this on foil so the drippings do not drip down in the flames. Besides is does end up frying in the butter, garlic, and butter. Baked just bake in a pan or dish like you would a meat loaf or roast of beef. The mixture cooks thoughout the meat... a nice combo of blue and garlic...in every bite. Enjoy Paddy
  20. LoL fake dummy wheels for merchandising locatelli is good Romano Jarlsburg is a good cheese but, I'm sort of tired of...but again I had exposure to about every cheese made. I recall back about 8 to 10 years ago...the IDB was planning to fly in speciality cheeses made at small French co-op farms. I wasn't on board with it...as ost were soft cheeses with a short shelf life. And one heck of a price point. Meaning that each were over $20 per pound . And that point we were heading into a ecomic down turn....as suspected it was a bust. But there are cheeses still made in France today that were made before Christ in French caves. As welll some great caved aged swiss's that the cave drjpping become's its rine. I love baked brie...
